Would love to know the smith if your in central Washington area. Had a long conversation with a guy today about 2 different Smith's he went to. Both happily took his money and in return one messed up his barrel and the other claimed to do work that they never did. It's sad when you cant trust the "experts". I wouldn't pay more than 50 for a action bedding job. Maybe a 100 for full length bedding. Guess I'm cheap

Well hope it shoots good anyway.

I tried a smith last summer. He had my howa for 9 weeks for a bed job, and my shotgun for the same amount of time for duracoat. I had already blasted the shotgun and had it prepped to be sprayed even.
He didn't have them done when I went to pick up.
I quickly learned how to do both myself lol.

Just send it to me along with a check for $175 and I’ll go ahead and fix it for you. I’ve got some JB weld out in the garage that would fix it just righ. :chuckle:

I've been told by a smith that he waits until he has a full load of the same project when it comes to things that require some kind of chemical. Like for bluing, he'll wait until the entire tank is full; for bedding, he'll wait until there are half a dozen bed jobs so he only has to mix up the chemicals one every couple months.

Are those washers to space bottom plate out or pieces of bedding?

I'm not sure what we're supposed to be seeing in the photos. Were you happy with the job he did, or not? :dunno:

Have you done an action bed? Or seen a bunch to compare too? Since it was a professional smith, I'd think it would be a lot cleaner; some final dressing with a dremel and some 1500+ grit since it looks like not much was done in the prep work. :dunno:

How does it shoot?

Hard to tell from the picture but looks like he bedded the recoil lug, and skim coat for the action.

This is what a quality bedding job should look like. I only paid $200 to have this done by a top level smith. That included the final inletting for the action as well as the bedding.

That one in Biggerhammer's picture looks like something a guy did in his garage. Even then, the bedding jobs I do in my garage look better than that and they only cost about $15 for supplies if I'm using Devcon.

I personally have seen this rifle and the bedding job , and was shocked at what I saw ! I thought this guy was legit, I'll not use him again ! And he way overcharged for the entire job . Does the gun shoot ? Depends on how many rounds you want to shoot and if you don't mind the bottom metal popping open every shot ! After 2 rounds (just short of touching ) the third is 2-3 inches out ! Very disappointed with this guy!

That looks like *censored*.
I wish you'd blast the guy and put his name out. I wouldn't want anyone else to get screwed.
