I'm wanting to mount a Leupold VX3 3.5-10 50mms scope on my Savage. I have a Nightforce aluminum 1913 rail and am having trouble deciding on rings and height of rings. Any suggestions for aluminum rings and what height?

For my target guns I use Burris tactical rings with 6 screws on my one piece bases. As far as height, a lot depends on what type of barrel and where your scope is placed on the rifle. I'll lay a 1/2" bolt/rod/drill bit across the front and back of the base and set the scope on them and measure the clearance between the objective housing and the barrel the subtract that less the clearance you want from 1/2" to determine ring height.

If you wanna go with aluminum, I'd recommend Burris XTR medium height, but I went with Warne Steel rings and base for my Savage 111 in 300WM.

I went with a Warne picatinny rail and Leupold PRW medium rings on my 111 with a Leupold VXR. Medium would be perfect for a 50mm objective.

I could use some help on this one. My son has a model 11 7-08 and wanted a new scope put on it. He chose a Leupold 3x9x50 VXF. I picked up some Talley medium bases (PN940725). The rings fit the rifle fine, but it seems that the scope tube is too short. The scope will not sit in the rings properly. Is there a different set of Talley rings I need to buy that are closer together?

I'm not sure why that combination wouldn't work. It's a short action rifle, and that model scope isn't especially short, so it really should fit just fine. Maybe you can post a couple pictures? Also, you can try reversing the rings, to help get the spacing you need.

I called Talley and they were great to deal with. They sent me a new extended front ring and will reimburse me when I send them back the standard one I originally bought. I mounted up the new extended front and it fits the scope perfectly.
