I posed the question.....
Anybody interested in trying to take the cup back from Bone. Same rules as last year. Currently there is no prize other than having the satisfaction of helping someone, and trying to kick my butt, but maybe a sponsor might kick in something. Basically same as last year, $20 entry fee, all funds go to Jesse. Look for details at the top of general to see who we could be helping. BTKR or Killbilly could channel the funds if they are willing. I know things are tight this year so this is just a feeler. I'd love to keep this tradition alive if there was some interest. Please let me know what your thoughts are. No obligations at this point. If there is an interest or you guys are supportive we will hammer out some logistics. I might even see if Killbilly and BTKR are up to it. If not I guess I can handle it again. I don't know the fella, but then again I didn't know Josh. If you are uncomfortable about your opinions on here, pm me them.
Thanks
Bone....
and I got an affirmative to go.
In honor of Joshua Holm, we are going to run our second annual Big game contest....this years recipient is
Jesse Fosse. For details about him....http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,23148.0.html (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,23148.0.html)
Details of the contest:
Here's the contest......$20 to enter for ALL of your Non-resident/out of state hunts(one fee covers all hunts). You can either paypal the money to an account set up for him at nikeleg@comcast.net or mail me a check. Some funds will be lost to fees if paypal is used, not much but some. PM me with your interest and I will get that payment information/mailing address to you. I will collect the funds and about once a week or so, I will send the money to Jesse's family or into that account provided. Those that enter will be listed in this sticky thread . Currently there is no prize for winning the contest, but we are working on something. Right now its just to help someone, and some bragging rights.
-The contest will begin with the up and coming seasons 2009 license year. The contest will end midnite Dec 31st. Some seasons will not have run yet or may still be open, buthte contest is over at this time.
-Any animal recognized and measured by Pope and Young or Boone and Crocket will be eligible.
-The animals scores will be compared to the world record of each animal for each method of collection and for each category nontyp/typical etc. The score will be turned into a ratio and the one closest to the New world record, or the one that beats the new world record by the largest score. WINS
-Anyone that is hunting a Non-resident hunt is eligible. That means if you are from Montana and hunting Idaho, you are eligible. If you are from Texas and hunting Colorado, you are eligible. If you are from Washington, the animal must be from out of state. Washington state hunters that are interested in donating but are not going out of state can donate to a link that we will get posted on here shortly.
Entrys will be judged on the honor system by the Boone and Crockett club or Popes, scoring system. These MUST be fairchase hunts as outlined by those scoring systems.
Similiar to the Washington contest, I would like a committee of judges to be formed. These judges are eligible for the contest. They reserve the right to reject a trophy if an issue arrives or have it measured by another party. (Where's the lawyer, this is a pain to write) If one of the committee members trophies is in the top ten, then they will be replaced with another member to take their spot on the committee. The overal top ten entries will need to be officially scored bya Boone or Pope measurer. This may be adjusted to top 5 if there are not that many contestants. The officail score sheets will need to be posted prior to the first of March.
The committee reserves the right to adjust or add rules during the contest if needed.
I was going to put a deadline on when your funds needed to be in for the contest, but since this is an honor system, at this time I would like to keep the contest open for more applicants if possible as this is a fund raiser. PLEASE have your funds in prior to hunting. You must have your application in before harvesting in order tfor the animal to be eligible for entry into the contest.
Currently Killbilly, myself and BTKR will be committee members. If Jesse becomes an instant Millionaire and is no longer in need of funds, then the committe will reserve the right to help out someone else in misfortune.
It would be cool if you do donate, to put a comment from yourself inicating who you are and that you are form this site, so that we might know where the generosity is coming from and we are sure to get your entry posted.
If you use the NikeLeg@comcast.net PayPal method, put "Joshua Cup" in the comments box please. It will help us track it.
THANK YOU ALL FOR PARICIPATING.

I'm in. Added a few extra bucks to cover Paypal fees +. The 2009 cup will be won by a rifle-killed mule deer from Wyoming. Bone, no hurries delivering the trophy, you can drop it off on your way to the Methow to shed hunt next year.
-
GOOD DEAL! You're on!
-
Speaking of trophy......Compliments of our resident Master of making things, I understand Hunting Cowboy might be working on a travelling trophy for us all. Though I expect nothing like the Hunt Wa trophies he created, it will be cool to have some sort of travelling trophy for the winner, especially as we'd like to make this a perpetual thing where we are helping out someone in need. We'll keep you posted as this progresses. Thanks for your time and Skill Hunting Cowboy!
-
SWEET !!!
-
Right on HC
-
I'm in. If I draw that antelope tag I hope to shoot a good one.

No doubt, that would be a great animal to take this trophy with. COOL

I am thinking seriously about Mortgage hunters deal. Going to get all my stuff together tonight and call him this weekend. It would really be cool if it helps both of us out.

Dang! We refinanced in March.
-
Thought I'd bring this up again before all the hunts start. Not as many entries this year. I'm not sure I am even going out of state this year. I know there are some fellas headed up to goat hunt in BC and probably some other good hunts out there. Its a good cause and fun. Killbilly is working on a travelling trophy I understand. Anyone else interested or any new members......I've already seen a bear that could have won it for sure if they had been entered.
-
Looks like our first entry if I'm not mistaken. CONGRATS ACTIONSHOOTER! I wish I was in Idaho this week giving you a run for your money.

Is it to late to get in on the out of state contest, before I leave on the 1st for wyoming and Montana?
-
Thanks for posting them up Bone. He's a nice deer, but I'm no threat for the prize!
-
Very nice Doublelung
-
As long as you enter before your hunt Bear, its all good. Pm me if you need an addy again. I am hoping to have pics of the plaque that Killbilly put together for the competition. I better get to Idaho if I even want a chance to keep this thing.
-
Here is a picture of the Plaque. I believe that Bone will post a much better one when he gets a chance. The blank spaces still have a layer of plastic on them and look dull in the picture.

I just have to say that is an awesome trophy there Al, I sincerely appreciate this gesture in keeping this contest going in memory of my nephew. I am convinced that this will be able to help a BUNCH of folks out in the years to come which is what he would have wanted.
A heartfelt Thank You very much from my family to all who participate in this contest !!
Thank You very much AL your AWESOME ;) !!!
-
I need to clarify that the wood, cut to the shape of our state was donated by a member in Skagit County. I want to say it was Wea300Mag. All I did was add some finishing touches and had the engraving part done. It was a joint effort. After sending it to Doug I remembered I for got to put the hangers on it. So Bone gets to add the last touch.
And by the way we are proud to honor Joshua and keep his memory with us.
-
Great job on the trophy, guys! Thanks! It'll look great in my shop next year. Oh, yeah, I guess I need to actually kill something to compete.... Hmmmm...
-
I'm sure this is not your winner but it's all I got from out of state ... I'll get a score up at some point if it really matters as I'm sure there will be larger!!! :dunno:
-
Here is my official entry. My 2009 Wyoming Buck. I will score him tonight! First morning out 200 yard shot and caught it all on video!

Well I came up with 159 this evening, I thought he was in the mid 160's but I quessed wrong. I am going to have to score him one more time just for the hell of it.
-
A few of you guys havent posted up your score yet, lets see what they go. Mray your buck looks pretty good throw a tape to it!
-
Mine still Zero. LOL Thats a nice buck Bear.
-
No doubt, that would be a great animal to take this trophy with. COOL
This pronghorn ran into the arrow I let loose from the longbow over in WY. He will not win but for the spirit of things I'll submit it because that's all I got. I don't think he could possibly measure greater than 55 inches.
-
So, for the sake of the competition, I measured my Kansas buck. It came out at 111 7/8, which would put it at 54.71% of the Pope and Young typical whitetail record. I know it's a long way from winning this competition, but I've never shot a 111" buck that I was more proud of!
-
A few of you guys havent posted up your score yet, lets see what they go. Mray your buck looks pretty good throw a tape to it!
Well I did and came it came in at 156 1/8 gross ... Great mass scores but if it wasn't broken on the right G-4 it would gross right at 160!!! I haven't done a % but I'm sure it's way off the pace :dunno:
-
We need a score from actionshooter!! I believe Bearhunter currently has the lead at 70.2% of the B&C typical mule deer world record. If I am correct, actionshooter's mountain goat needs to beat 39 6/8"; my eyeball of the photo says 45" :dunno:.
So, Boneaddict. Let's get going for the 2010 contest!! Wyoming elk draw results should be out soon ...
-
Let's get going for the 2010 contest!!
I agree, I missed out on outta state for 09 but Alaska 2010 should be a great year !!!
Can't wait to see who wins 2009 though, how long before the announcement ??
-
Hey lets fiqure this thing out! Can I enter my Oryx it was a tag that I drew last February?
-
No Boone measurements on the Or. I'll zing actionshooter and see what he has.
-
Sorry for the hold up guys, I never bothered to score it and the horns are over at Bucklucky's right now. I sent him a PM asking him to score them.
He let me know he was going to get on it.
Steve
-
OK guys, Charlie sent a PM with the score on the goat, it grossed 45 7/8" and netted 44 6/8" .
Not what I wanted, I'll have to go again someday. :)
-
It looks to me like we may have a winner. Since there is no prize money involved this year, this score will be official enough for me, especially since it looks to me like a 45 inch goat. Anybody got time enough to do the math for me?
-
Thats AWESOME !!! :IBCOOL:
Congratulations to the winner this year !!
Look out though, I'll be heading to Alaska come September looking to have that trophy in my house for 2011 !!! ;)
-
OK.........Sorry this has taken so long folks. It looks like Actionshooter takes it with a score of 79. I need to get in contact with him to get the specifics for the plaque and then I will get it engraved and shipped on to him. I'll start organizing next years contest.
CONGRATULATIONS ACTIONSHOOTER!
-
Congrats Steve!
-
Well done Steve, congrats.
-
Thanks guys, not sure a 44" goat should have won, but I'll take it. :chuckle:
Need to get a few more guys signed up this year.
-
Nice job Actionshooter!
