Title: Any quail success?
Post by: EasternWaArcher on October 12, 2018, 08:04:13 PM
Well quail opened last weekend.

I have put in 3 hunting days since then, not bad all things considered. But I have seen very few quail. I'm hunting east side, around prosser & burbank on the usual units around there. No dog, but that hasn't stopped me before. Pup in training!

I've put some miles down hunting russian olive and sage, and I have spooked up 2 covys (covies?). Compared to other years this is pretty lame hunting. I've had some fun with rabbits and coyotes, but it feels like the quail are unusually few and far between.

Anyone else have any success so far?

It seems just the opposite over here. I have seen more quail this year that the last 3 combined. That being said most I have seen have been in areas that aren’t huntable. I did have some success on the opener and was able to knock down a few. I got into them thick but I have two pups in training so I was more focused on them than shooting.

Got about 60 of them on my place.  I think my cats get more than the local hunters.
