Title: MuzzleLoader Pellets?
Post by: Gobble on October 15, 2018, 11:49:29 AM
My daughter is due to have a baby any time so I was unable to get away to hunt modern rifle for deer, so Im planning on going late ML, in the past I have hunted a great deal with a traditional .54 cal Lyman Muzzleloader but I'm planning on using my dads .50 cal CVA Wolf inline, what is everyones recommendation for pellets? the ML is setup for Musket Caps, do they fire everytime with the pellets? Good/Bad, Looking for opinions, I've always used powder in the past, (both black powder and pyrodex).

Thanks!

I think I have some pellets (50 cal, 50 gr ea)  I used to use them but have gone to powder.

If I can find them, you are welcome to them.

CORRECTION:  These are actually an unopened package of pyrodex 54/60 (54 cal/60 gr)

If OP doesn't want them, anyone local can have them

I am also pretty sure there are 50 cal pellets somewhere in the garage

I have an older Traditions inline, and my son has a CVA Optima, both 50cal/musket caps.  We use the pyrodex pellets, and have never had a problem with ignition.

The important part is don't get the cheaper musket caps, spend the money on the german brand( I can't remember what it is exactly).

From what I understand though, the white hot or 777 pellets are designed for 209 primer use, so don't get those.

I use pyrodex pellets. I wouldn’t recommend any other type of pellet with musket caps.

I have a box of Pryodex pellets that I've used for maybe 10 shots. I also have the German musket caps. You can take both off my hands if you want for free. Ill never use them again since this state switched over to 209 primers. If you want to meet up, feel free to pm me.

Echoing what was said above.  I have never had a single issue with pyrodex pellets and musket caps.  After six days of our hunt this year I finally fired my gun with a load that was in it the whole time (new caps everyday). Rain, fog, wind and the gun fired with no issues.
