I’m not sure if he is a member here, but there was an incredible bull killed. Probably the new Archery state record. Ill let him post the pics.
-
Not sure this post is legal. :chuckle:
Talk about a tease.
-
It’s one of those deals, where I’d like to tell the world because damn, it’s a nice moose but I think it should be the guys business to post if he wants. It will be blowing up everyone’s social media I’m sure. So I guess this is more of an alert to watch for it.
85 percent of the moose shot are dinks compared to what’s out there. Mostly aggressive younger bulls. Most people are all jacked and pull the trigger on their OIL before they really realize it. Antler size isn’t everything after all, But when you see a critter like this, dang!
-
I saw the pics on Facebook. It is an amazing animal.
-
Yeah that bull is a tank.
-
My hunting partner arrowed the moose and gave me permission to post. He is not a member here. I will try to get a pic up. Thanks guys, It is a toad but more impressively he is the one bull that he wanted to shoot. Its just something to pick a particular animal out and actually take it.
-
Absolutely awesome!
-
What a beast!! Hopefully we get to hear the story
-
2018 moose
-
Holy batman
-
I apologize for the bent pic but I don't have time to figure it out as I am actually running a little late, suppose to be on my way down to go process this big thing haha. We built a mobil cooler which we had with us on the hunt and the moose has been aging in it since the kill day. The meat is looking fantastic and can't wait to cook some up!
-
WOWZER!!!!!!!!!
-
That is the second monster moose i have seen taken this year.
-
Nice one.👍
What tag was it?
-
What is the width of that monster?
-
That bull is a freak nasty congratulations.
-
My goodness. What a monarch.
Thanks for sharing.
-
I'm just speechless...
-
That bull's fronts are bigger than paddles on a lot of killed bulls
-
Second big moose I've seen killed this year, congrats!
-
Thats a Beauty !

I just want to share it took alot for him to share this pic. The Hunter and poster are very reserved guys. Please do not ask for specifics. You will not get them.
I am proud to know him , he is a great guy and the hunter and poster put in a ton of work. Every time I tried to reach him he was scouting putting out cameras..
He deserves everything that goes with this bull .. a fantastic animal.. and fantastic guys
-
Trad! Amazing bull. Congrats. Any story?
-
Awesome bull wow!!!! Thanks to the hunter for sharing always great to see amazing animals like that.
-
Heading out Saturday for my Idaho OIL moose hunt......this pic will make me a wee bit slower to pull the trigger on a "pretty decent" moose!
-
What a beast. Thank your friend for sharing please.

congrats...Damn nice bull right there..

Congratulations to the archer.  WOW
IMHO This bull would be competition to a bunch of Canadian moose for antler size.
-
I'd love to hear the story on this one! Trad bow? How close?
Amazing animal. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome bull

Glad it was shared, but OIL’s why not share where it was taken?
Not like the hunter is going to get another chance at one unless he pays up for the auction tag. :twocents:
-
All I can say is wow!
-
What an amazing animal!! Congrats to the hunter and thank you for sharing it with those of us that are not in the crowd that gets pics of every great buck and bull that is killed. Location and information of this bull was earned by the hours and $$$$ spent and that intel belongs with the person who put the work in. There is no obligation to share information, OIL or otherwise. Just seeing that incredible bull is more than enough for me!!!!
-
What a monster! :o
-
Keith Jackson would say: "Granddaddy of Them All!"
Congrats!
-
Is this a Wa moose or ID?
-
Shiras I believe
:peep:
-
I didn’t know they made bulls like that. Wowza.
-
If you are going to book it they will require a location. I think I know the GMU but either way he’s a bull of dreams.

Thanks everyone for the awesome replies! Yeah this bull is something else. It is definitely something to be proud of. He is an archery WA bull shot with a compound bow and is 44 2/8" wide.
It is relatively thick in this particular area where he lived so we just poked around here and there calling a little. heard some responses but nothing would come in. We had an hour of daylight left one evening so we decided to give it another try. I cow called and he responded immediately and was right on top of us so we had to move quick to get the wind in our favor as he was trying to circle us. He was grunting and grunting like crazy coming through the tall willows. With the shooter in place, i grunted like a bull and he got bent out of shape and destroyed a tree, then turned straight down the hill towards us right where we wanted him. When i first saw his giant fronts clear the brush I was like OH THATS HIM! Then I realized I forgot to grab my video cam which I had bought just for this hunt haha! He comes down into the opening and stops at 40 yards just long enough to receive the arrow in the heart. He ran about 50 yards and tipped over. I didn't see him fall but i remember what sounded like an old growth doug fir hitting the ground haha. It was pretty awesome to say the least.
We kind of have a little history with this bull so that makes the whole deal even better for us. And to even think one of us would actually draw the tag and hunt him is incredible. I will try and post some of the history pics we have of him.
Thanks again for looking and commenting.
-
Shiras I believe
:peep:
He’s dead.
-
Thanks for the follow up details of the hunt. Sounds like a great time. Congrats to you guys on a great hunt.

I apologize for the delay in the pics but I have been busy to play on the internet. The snow pic was last year and one of many times we watched him. We were lucky enough to at least get one of his paddles which was knocked off a bit early by sparring with a smaller bull.
Thanks everyone for the incredible responses!
-
Cool history. Man that is a lot of bone to grow every year.
-
Thanks for sharing....Nice bull. Congratulations.
-
Amazing bull, congratulations!
-
Wow, what an AMAZING bull. Great job!
-
So awesome
-
Incredible is right! Congrats to the hunter
-
Great bull and for sure a new wa st archery record I would assume? Good to see he survived all the predators. We will have to wait till the new records book comes out to see which county it was killed in, that's ok. I don't blame the guy for not wanting to say which unit.
-
Amazing bull    Awesome that you have history with him as well
-
ATL
-
Processed and straight into the cooler
-
Ready for the Euro
-
Yeah there are some reasons for not saying yet about the unit or county and one is I'm not entirely sure it will be registered in the books. I do believe it will score more than well enough to be #1 for archery at least since the latest book has been published anyway so we'll see after the drying period. He is an old tank. I can't wait to find out how old he was. I can tell you my thoughts judging by the steaks that he is plenty old! tastes fantastic but sure is tough. We aged him in the cooler for 13 days.
-
All the steaks are tough on these bulls. Gotta slow cook them in a crockpot to make em tender
-
Good to know! I was going to try that next. The last time I had a moose steak was from my cousins Selkirk bull and he was 8 1/2 or 9 1/2 yrs old i believe and it was fantastic!
-
Wow, congrats! I wish now i held out on mine, a 37" bull is a pip squeek compared to that! Also wished i used the bow. Was this with a trad bow or compound?
-

You can try wet aging as well. I've had decent success with vac sealing and throwing in the fridge for 16-28 days.
-
He used a compound. If I ever draw I will most likely use my hybrid longbow I built or build one just for moose haha. Well it would be hard for me to be picky with a tag like that as well. There is a little bit of pressure along with that tag. I know the guy that shot this bull would of most likely hunted til the last day of season for him before thinking of notching his tag on a lesser bull. I personally don't have the discipline for that and neither do a lot of folks.
As for wet aging, yeah that actually might be something to look into. I have done just that with deer or elk when its not cold enough to hang them but never for more than 4-5 days. I never really thought about. Thanks for the tip!
-
I killed my WA bull with training wheels. Then I had my bowyer make a special longbow for my next moose, so it’s not unheard of. Lol.
-
Great bull. Congrats. My dad and I shot 2 in Alberta years back and the meat is amazing. Portions are tough so we had breakfast sausage made and if you can them in a pressure cooker that make some of the best sandwich meat you’ll ever have.
-
I may try and can some when I get time. I still have never had canned game meat other than salmon.
Bone, what poundage and broadhead would you recommend for moose with a longbow? The hybrid I hunt with currently is only 63# and I shoot Bear Razorheads which I don't think I would use on a moose I don't think. I sure love killing elk and deer with that set up though.
-
Awesome moose, and even better story behind it. To have history with that bull and end up taking him, what a great memory. Congratulations to the hunter and you..
-
wow!!! congrats, that thing is a monster
-
Thanks for sharing the pics and info Tradhunter.

-
Keeping me dreaming. Nice bull and thanks for keeping dreams alive.
-
Its keeping my dreams alive too! Especially hearing about how our moose population is doing. I'm sure there was a lot of luck on our side for this one. It feels like there should of been a lot of moose to go through before we found the one we were looking for but I guess not. It is kind of a hard spot to hunt and they seem to be pretty shy of road systems except for the bull I almost hit a week ago in my Samurai! Yeah that would of been a disaster!
-
Wow. Please thank him for letting you post, great bull.
-
There has been some big bulls killed this year!! And I know of one that is bigger than that bull believe it or not!!! Washington has some great moose
-
Oh I believe it! I have seen bigger and actually in the exact spot we shot this one but it was a couple years ago and we have not seen him since so figured he was dead or gone or he would of been our target. Not a doubt in my mind he would of been around the 200" range. I got to watch him at 40 yards. I also know of a bull that was targeted by a guy this year that is in that realm as well. I have not heard if he got him or not. Just have to be out there and be persistent.
-
Awesome! thanks for posting that bull and story. That bull is great no matter what but even better when you have history with him. I have had target animails I have went after and its really hard waiting and getting the ONE but what a rewarding hunt
-
Yea there have been some pigs killed this year. I would love to see pics of a 200” Washington bull.

I wished I would have taken pics of the real big one but I was too awestruck and didn't think about it haha!

Sweet Bull and congrats to hunter but whats wrong with asking about the Moose and what unit etc.. its a once in a lifetime tag

It is nice there are so many cut on contact heavy broadheads available these days. I would feel comfortable with an arrow in the 500-600 range with a solid CTC two blade, and good arrow flight. Basically, the same set-up I shoot for deer and elk out of my 62# longbow.
Thank you for all the photos and story. That is an amazing animal. Congrats to the hunter.
-
right on and thanks for the reply. I do have some 600plus grain cedar shafts that I also use for elk that I think would be fine for moose. I do like a heavy arrow. I also have some purple heart footed shafts that are dang tough. i would have to change out broadheads though as I currently use Bear Razorheads and would not trust them to hold up on a moose. I was just not sure if my 63lb Hybrid longbow would be sufficient but then again its not all that tough to get close to a moose most of the time. Sure like that there are still some folks out there running around with the real stick and string.

I killed mine with a 400gr. Beman tipped with 85gr. Thunderhead, I think you will be fine.
-
Yeah I'm sure I will be fine but those ribs don't look friendly. I haven't had any problems getting through elk with that combo.
-
We got pics of it right after you guys got back from his mom. No description, just pics. Glad to finally hear the story! Was almost certain it wasn’t a WA moose from the size!
-
Thanks, yeah it was a fun experience for sure. Kinda sad it ended so fast but thats ok when you get the one you are searching for I guess. We got the Euro done. There sure has been some big bulls shot this year!
