Title: Gunsmith for making/fitting new stock for old Spanish 20ga?
Post by: screedler on October 21, 2018, 04:03:55 PM
Howdy,

I was given an old spanish 20ga side by side shotgun by my late father before his passing.  He claimed to have gotten it at a gun show and i'm pretty certain he never shot it because of his poor health.

Unfortunately I noticed a big crack in the stock near where the grip meets the receiver? area.  And upon taking it down found that the stock was broken even more on both sides of where it attached to the shotgun itself near the triggers. There was some glue inside holding it together!

So i'm thinking it's not safe to shoot it with the stock all cracked up... Does anyone know a good gunsmith who could fit a new stock to this old shotgun? Would love to shoot this gift from my dad if I could. I'm not sure if that's something that most gunsmiths would offer as a service or not...

Thanks, hoping this isn't in the wrong forum category.

Fitting a new stock to an older sxs is going to be a pretty expensive proposition think K's.  I would look for someone to repair the existing stock.

I was just down at their shop and saw this guys wood working on stocks, he is really good!  Earl works at The best of the West down in Cody, WY.  I’d give them a call

I have a guy in Bremerton that can help you. He's a stock maker but I can't afford him. He was able to fix a stock that had broken in half on an old 1930 SXS I bought. You can't even tell where he glued and pined it.  I'll try to PM you his number tomorrow
