I showed my wife her first porky this weekend. He was lumbering on the ground. Seriously hard to resist trying not to pet it or pick it up and hug it. and....as clumsy as it seemed on the ground, he was quite apt balancing himself on that limb.

I love porcupines.
A couple years ago during the late archery season, with just minutes left before it got dark i see a small shape lumbering directly towards me across the desert. I stood completely still and this cool porcupine comes strutting by as if on a mission to get somewhere else before it got dark. He paid me no mind whatsoever...in fact he might have given me the middle finger as a strode past. He went in a straight line up over small rock walls, thru tall weeds, didnt matter what the obstacle, he was too cool to use the established trail. I bid him good luck on his journey and walked the rest of the way back to my truck with a smile on face, knowing I'd witnessed one of those cool, rare nature moments that only come when you are by yourself in the middle of nowhere. ;)

Thats AWESOME! Im glad there is someone else out there that appreciates nature at its finest and doesnt feel the need to kill something just because it exists.

Porcupines, skunks, owls, and weasels, have all contributed to my top 10 wildlife encounters. I've had some super close encounters with does, but the ones that I remember best and think of fondly were all non-game animal encounters.

Porkies make some really funny noises! I have followed them just for the comic relief.
Last year I saw a armadillo while hunting. They are nutty like porkies but when scared, they squeal and launch themselves away like a flea does, but they are bottom heavy, so their back feet and tail pass up their front and the crash uncontrollably to the ground. I was cracking up out loud after watching it.

Tried feeding one some lettuce one time. Didn't work out so well. He wasn't interested in it and I accidentally bonked him on the head when I threw the head of lettuce his way. :chuckle:

When I first started bird hunting with my dog, I told myself that I was gonna shoot everyone I saw. But every time I come across one, I just can't do it :dunno: :dunno:

Great fall picture. I haven't killed one in years. There was a $5 bounty on them in NH and we'd go out at night and spotlight them in the trees. Made a few bucks. They are cute little critters, though.

Cool animals. had my dog quilled earlier in season while out in Montana. It was strange, not a tree for a mile, hunting crp. there was a small pond in middle of it with vegetation running around it. Never expected one there. Got lucky , about 25 which we pulled and she was ready to hunt again. As for killing them, the way I see it , they are just out making a living. I have run into the most in Washington out on the firing range.

One of my most favorite animals in the world. I love stepping on they're tail so I can get a close up look :chuckle: We were packing out a friends mulie this year when I noticed one in a dry lake bed well below the ridge we were on. Well worth the extra hike down and out of the gully just to check him out :chuckle:
