This is a buck an ol'timer killed back in 1975, year before I was born :chuckle: Anyway, he wanted to get it mounted finally so I pulled a nice cape out of my stock and mounted him up for the guy. Thought you guys would like to see an Old rack on a new cape. There are allot of people that don't realise you can use a new fresh cape that didn't come off the original buck and mount it up. Same goes with elk and other critters.

Damn you do good work. You'll never be invited to my house. I don't want you to see the crap that I do. LOL Very nice. You could use your work as reference material (which you should never do), so thats an ultimate in compliments.

Thanks Doug, its getting there. I keep trying different things all the time. Usually small but seem to make a differance. Not perfect by no means ;) There are still stuff I need to get better at.
-
Well thats a good attitude to have. Meanwhile, mine are getting freezer burn.

Nice buck Charlie

Very nice

Not at all trying to be a downer but it looks like in the first picture that his eyes are not at all matching. The one on the right seems to be more open than the one on the left. All in all you got a good mount just watch the eyes a little closer. Just giving constructive criticism not being negative.

i cant wait to bring my bull to you this year

It isnt off as much as it looks, good eye though. I will post a picture of it outside. Shadowing or something is throwing it off a bit. I was wondering if someone would notice ;) I did once I posted that picture :yike:

Nice work Charlie, love the eye shape and carrunkle (spelling?) We haven't mounted a blacktail yet. Don't get many over here. They have short wide faces don't they? Kind of cool looking. Have you tried the new forms from McKenzie in the mulie line yet? We just did our first one and I really like the extra detail. Arm pits are a lot deeper or should I say leg pits? The septum is way different on the new ones. It will take some getting used to.

Actually Cberg, the mckenzie Muley line is ok for young bucks , I have gotten away from using them, I spent way too much time remodeling the form to look more like a muley. Lancaster forms out of Trufitt manikins is about the best Muley forms I have found. Still have to work the head over a bit to get the right Muley look, but way better than McKenzie IMO. The lancaster forms in research are nice too but are different than the trufitt line. :twocents:

Oh and the Blacktail faces arent all short and wide, they vary drastically. I have to take eye width measurements on most blacktails I get in and sculpt from there. I have found that you have to make a head for each individual deer you do basically. Eye widths , nose widths are really going to help. Ive not found a blacktail head yet that fis correctly. I am always trying new things with blacktails. But thats just me and my opinion. I got a couple blacktails drying that are pretty nice. One has a super wide and short face , the other is narrow. Huge differance in deer. Those are mounted with all measurements I take.

Very nice work , does look better outside in the natural light , good job once again.

Very nice, very nice. They look so life like...

Very nice, makes me want to get my 4x6 horns mounted on a head. I was planning on it when I got another old roman nosed grey faced buck.

Damn dude that looks great. I love your subtle detail, that makes all the difference. The eye's look absolutely great.

Very nice work Charlie! I got a preview of the buck you are doing for me from my nephew (houndhunter). It looks great. I forgot how nice the cape looks. I drew a Perrygin A tag for next season so maybe I'll have another worth mounting next fall.
