Spent a little time in the Colville area yesterday. Things are starting to heat up.

Great shot!

Nice
But I heard there were no bucks up there this year :)
-
Thanks! Well, there are certainly fewer of them.

Good news Bone, thanks for the update! Hope the weather today will get them going, as I will be there for the next 3 days. Got lucky last year and managed to shoot a decent buck about 500 yards from where I saw 3 wolves an hour earlier!

Snow tonight possibly. Tomorrow should be fun!

We just got back from being up there a week. Cold and clear, rut is on.

Spent all day Saturday north of Colville, in areas I have hunted for several years. Drove and walked miles of great country, including several gated roads, and was walking in wolf tracks every step of the way. Left and drove 30 miles to a different area, with the exact same result. These tracks were all fresh from the last snow, so it isn't possible it was the same animals. I would bet the number of wolves in that area is 10 times what WDFW estimates. Oh, and one more thing......didn't see a single deer outside of farm fields close to town!
Time for a different state!

Spend the weekend on a 3,000 private ranch and saw 11 does a quick glimpse of a buck and a wolf. Sad times in the NE. You don’t see a lot of deer and there aren’t many bucks around this year. Even our cameras don’t have a lot of deer. We spent 3 days on another 1,200 acre ranch south of Chewelah and had the same success. Saw 4 does and no bucks. We are the only ones that hunt these places.

I agree, the wolves are out of control and putting the hurt on.

Same story here. We hunted springdale/chewelah area with a group of 4, logging huge boot miles trying every trick in the book at all of our best spots. Group was lucky to go 1/4 on a 4x3. Like you said aside from farm fields I jumped probably 3 does from pushing thick cover. Prime country was seemingly void of deer.
