Title: quality buck tag filled 2018
Post by: codak on November 16, 2018, 09:52:30 PM: After several years i finally drew my tag! Hunted 3 days and saw 15 bucks, almost every buck we saw was chasing does. Very cool to see rut activity that close. Heard several grunts and snorts. Jumped this guy early in the morning in a draw filled with moss covered oaks. Went to peak over the edge of the draw when 2 does came hopping out, my buck fallowed. We quickly setup the shooting sticks and as soon as i had him in my cross hairs he was on the move. he made it 15 or so yards and made a brief stop. Boom! which fallowed by an immediate wallop! you hit him! I racked my bolt and saw the buck still on the move, i made two more shots as he made his way over a knob. I connected on one of them. We made our way over to the knob and found blood everywhere. As we crested the knob i could see my buck slowly walking up the game trail. he was 130 yrds away. I propped my .270 down on a big rock and zero'd in on him. We made a grunt sound and he turned around to see what he heard. I put em on his neck and eased in on the trigger! The crisp bark of my gun fallowed by him dropping in his tracks! I Dumped him! He started to roll pretty hard down the steep canyon. I said lord please stop that buck! he stopped! I walked up on a nice wide quality buck! Feeling like a kid on christmas, we boned him out. loaded up the packs and headed out of the canyon! back to the truck by 1:30! Tuff, steep packout! very fun hunt! I cant thank my father in law riverun enough for all his help! I couldnt ask for a better hunting partner or friend! Great memories in the field!

Thanks! kifaru tut with 18" smith cylinder stove tipi and stove weigh under 4lbs
