Title: Skull Hooker for Elk
Post by: Star882 on December 03, 2018, 10:45:59 PM: I got my first bull elk this year and did a DIY European mount. I decided to use a skull hooker and I'm very impressed with the results. I put together a small review of the skull hooker kit for anyone who want to check it out. I'm sure someone was in the same boat as me and wants something nice to mount there memory to the wall.

Definitely put it in a stud. Otherwise it will most likely get ripped out of the wall at some point if not right away

The overall weight of the head/horns isn't that much, but the amount of weight that is held high and away from the wall puts a lot of pressure on the wall. I just learned it first hand putting my head on the wall last week. My 6 pt head completely bent out a 1/4" hex head bolt. Had to go to 3/8" to get something stout enough to hold it.
