Title: First Book Bear, 2008
Post by: Little John on March 22, 2009, 05:30:14 PM: Thought I'd post this before all the spring bears start showing up on here. It was 3rd week of Aug, and the berries were thick and ripe. I saw 3 bears in 2 days in this same spot. I spotted this one at about 250 yds. He was feeding to me so i just got a good rest and watched him eat. About 25 min later he was broadside at 60 yds. Put him down in his tracks with one shot. I didn't realize he was as good as he was. I new he was a chocolate boar, but I didn't think he was that big. I'm not sure what he weighed, but he was a little over 6'.
We were on a family camp out, so I hiked out and got my wife, son, father, and G-Pa. I was able to use a chain saw and get the truck within 400 yds of him. I didn't want to skin him in the field and screw him up. It was extra special with the family there. Fun trip for sure!!!!

My wife was as excited as i was, I'm so thankful to have a wife who loves the outdoors and understands my passion for the mountains.

That's not the first bear he's packed out like that... :rolleyes: I recall a day in the pouring down rain and fog and getting lost down the wrong ridge and a couple mile hike out of our way in the thick berry brush before getting back to the stupid truck.... :bash: :chuckle: Thanks again for making that pack! :chuckle:

And Charlie - yes your bull would have been out in about 2 trips haha.. As we are quartering elk up, I just keep stuffin' meat on John's packboard when he's not lookin since he'll never notice it anyways until he get's a couple hundred yards down the mountain and says man this thing is heavy! :chuckle:

What a nice hunting partner you are :chuckle: Thats all right I do that to my wife also, funny how I "accidently " mix up my pack with hers :chuckle:
