Title: Cougar report
Post by: Ridgeratt on December 17, 2018, 01:53:33 PM
Dear valued customer,

CHANGE: Effective for the 2018 hunting season, there is a new mandatory reporting requirement for cougar tags. Cougar reporting is required if you purchased a cougar tag, regardless of whether or not you hunted or harvested a cougar. There is no administrative fee for not reporting on a 2018 cougar tag, but this could change in the future. If you harvested a cougar, this report is an additional requirement. You must still follow the instructions outlined on page 71 of Washington’s 2018 Big Game Hunting Seasons and Regulations pamphlet.

WHO: You are receiving this email because a hunter using this email address purchased a cougar tag during the 2018 hunting season. As of December 15, 2018, our records indicate that the hunter has not reported on this tag.

HOW: There are two ways to complete your hunter report: report online now or call toll free at 1-877-945-3492. You will need your WILD ID number, the game management unit(s) you hunted, and the number of days you hunted.

The cougar hunt report is due by Sunday, March 31. If you received a tag for deer, elk, and special hunt permits, the hunter reports are due by Thursday January 31, 2019 and do have an administrative fee associated with them.

You should record and file your confirmation number for EACH report.

Reports cannot be accepted by mail or email. Please do not send in your transport tags.

Just got this an a email. If the season is open until the end of December why are they asking. Then they will tell me the unit I chose to hunt the quota of 2 has been filled and is closed.   :dunno:  :bash: :bash:

They also state the report isn't due until March 31, which doesn't make sense because Cougar is open until Apr. 30.

Since when has cougar remained open until April 30?  Some new change?

:yeah: wont that make the tag invalid if you report it before the season closes?

The season actually overlaps two separate license seasons. You could shoot a cougar on March 31st with this years tag and another on April 1st with next years tag.

The reality is, most, if not all decent cougar units close New Years Eve.

If I were a younger man that would be excellent info to know so I know which bars units to stay out of that night. :chuckle:

I spoke to someone at WDFW licensing and she said if you buy a cougar license in April you can't hunt cougar until the September season starts. It sounded incorrect to me. Anyone on here have some definitive info on that? Both times I've spoke to them on the phone they've made completely incorrect statements that directly contradict emails from their same department.

She made it sound like you needed a 2018 license and a 2019 license to hunt in April. She said that if I bought the license in April I couldn't use it until September.

2018 tag expires March 31.  You need your 2019 tag to legally hunt/kill/tag a cougar beginning April 1.
