Kicking around the idea of stroking the 4 liter that's in my jeep currently. Any thoughts on this? I know the usual internet stuff, i am looking for first hand knowledge.

I have a 4.8L stroker in my Wrangler, it's an amazing increase in power. Pretty much straight forward install, change fuel pressure regualtor and injectors. If you can do it yourself go for it, I bought mine from Titan but I do not recommend them. First motor ate the cam shaft during break-in and took forever negotiating with them to send me a new motor and i had to pay freight both ways on the return. Have heard good things about Golden engines tho.
Oh and I had to upgrade to a 8.8 rear axle, that motor broke the axle shafts on my D35.

I've done lots of Nick in times upgrades pn my DJ, haven't done a stroker.

Golen is actually what i was looking at. I am already running dana 44's in mine on 37's. My old 4.0 is starting to get pretty tired at 230,000k, and the stroked 4.6, 4.7 looks like a decent option.

There's some websites that are dedicated specifically to Jeep 4.0 stroker motors and they have tons of great information. I looked into doing something like this for a TJ Wrangler I used to have.

Thank you for the reply. I now am looking for a local shop to do this work, i see no real need to purchase a complete engine as this is a toy. if i can find a shop locally i will take it to them and just purchase one of russ's kits.

If you're running 37's, you very well may have already done this, but if not, a gear change will probably make a much more noticeable difference than doing a stroker motor.

Running 4.88's front and rear with Eaton E lockers already, and it wont pick the front tires up off of the ground. (zero fun)

Well since you've said that, I'd skip the stroker idea all together and swap in a V8. :tup:

I've been looking at these two websites, lots of good info between the two. I've been thinking of slowly building a stroker for my 97 Grand Cherokee.

Trust me i thought about it, with only a 67lb weight increase it was high on the list of must do mods. At the end of the day i decided it may just be a little bit cooler with a stroked 4 liter. everyone has a 5.3 and a 4l80e.

You sound like a buddy of mine that has been trying to sell me an L33 4l80e combo for 2 months. an LS motor doesn't make everything better. it would be cool though, i'm not sure i would like to give my first born son to Novak though (LS THE WORLD) 8)

You want cool factor get a turbo or a supercharger. One guy I know has a supercharger on his 4.0 in his TJ and it is a lot of fun. Another put a turbo on his 2.4 Wrangler . The turbo is pretty tame in the mountains until you start building boost :chuckle:

I had a TRD supercharger put on my 2013 Tacoma when it was brand new, actually I let it get broken in and had it put on at 3k, made a HUGE difference in that V6 4.0 over stock. It was like driving two completely different vehicles.

You'll be amazed at the torque increase with a stroker. I'm gettting new motor mounts cause mine torque steers now when u get on it. I mulled around about an LS swap but the expense of basically a whole new drive train wasn't in the budget at the time.

All TJ's have torque steer because of the 4 link / panhard bar suspension setup.
I would imagine your motor mounts were probably worn out before the swap and the extra torque finally did them in.

Yep i did the same. I rebuilt mine from one end to the other anyhow, but i like the idea of having v8 power in a nice stock package under the hood. I have some complain about the dependability of this build, but it may take me 10 years to put 25,000 miles on this jeep.

Buddy if mine has had a stroke 4.0, and a supercharged 4.0.
Both were awesome! I'd go with a stroker over the forced induction, just to keep it that much simpler.

I am going with the stroker. Tom's performance is building it for me as soon as i get off my azz, and pull the motor for him to start.
