Title: Poaching on the Tucannon.
Post by: jackelope on January 16, 2019, 10:14:59 PM
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police are looking for information regarding the poaching of five Whitetail does in the vicinity of the Wooten Wildlife Area in Columbia County. After receiving a concerned citizen’s report,  Sergeant Paul Mosman and Officer Ricky Delp found five partially butchered deer at Campground Nine on the Wooten WLA on January 15th. Based on evidence at the scene, it appeared the deer had been shot during the night/early morning of January 14th-15th and then brought to the campground to be butchered, with primarily only the back straps and rear quarters taken. If anyone has any information, please call Sergeant Paul Mosman at 509-710-5707 or Officer Ricky Delp at 509-780-2746. Tips can be given anonymously and may be eligible for a reward.

obviously not just trying to "feed the family" if all they take are the backstraps and hind quarters. not that it would even matter, poaching is poaching period

Josh mentioned it in the I90 elk crossing thread but it is true here as well.  There are many factors contributing to our declining deer herds.  Stuff like this is a certainly a factor in declining herds.  Poaching is one that we should be able to control with increased enforcement and actually prosecuting people when they get caught doing this.

If they would have taken all the meat they could have only shot two of the five.

I'd be willing to bet if asked whoever did this will say that they needed the free meat to feed to their family/families.  I would also bet that they have other items that they spend money on that could be cut before stealing our resources.  Cigarettes, alcohol, starbuck's or whatever.

Exactly after a late night of poaching they don't have time to make lunch the next day so they stop at the quickie mart for a yoohoo and and a bag of funyuns that are way overpriced but convenient.   :bash:

Does that mean you recently had some funyuns?

It is just so frustrating to see that kind of stuff.  Those are 5 does that a new youth hunter could have taken.  It is just such a waste on so many levels.

That's a lot more than 5 deer lost right there.  A real bummer.

So they think someone shot them at night/early morning, loaded them in a truck, drove them to the camp 9 campground and butchered them there?

It would have to be at least two guys right?

I wonder how many they shot that ran off and were just too much trouble to track down and load up in the truck.

At least some of those does were probably bred carrying fawns.

This is the kind of crap that truly upsets me...

Our herds are already in bad shape then we have these jerk-offs out there poaching.

Truly not sportsmen

Poachers suck, no matter how they do it. They usually waste but this is really bad waste. Infuriating.  :bash:

Interesting. The cuts they took are all the best jerky cuts. See who is selling deer jerky on the side.
