How do you get a live primer out of an empty shell?  Mike w

do you have a loading die to match?

The same way you'd get a spent primer out.

Primers have enough energy to rip apart a case.  Face shield leather gloves, heavy clothing.

Or just fire it in the gun and remove as normal.

I've removed many and never had an issue.

I've removed one and did.  I'd sooner throw it out.

Yep. Will shoot them in the gun. Some r 300 short mags and I dont have that gun. Guess I will have to buy one 2 clean the brass. Lol

Ive removed plenty that way and never had a problem.  If you are worried about it, you can shoot it I guess.

Try googling "removing live primers." You'll find plenty of discussion on the subject.

In my 35 years of reloading, I'd guess that I've removed 30 to 40 live primers. No problem. I even reused some of the priners, but not for hunting loads.

How about a universal decapping die? Sure is a handy die to have.

In a pinch, you could just overextend the spindle downward from almost any die.  I've done that before I had a decapping die. Never had one go off before.

My Dad DID manage to try annealing a .45-70 case with a live primer one time.  He jumped out of his shoes

I’ve removed lots of live primers, just ran them through my universal de cap die. Nothing bad will happen even if one goes off. It’ll just make a loud pop noise. But I’ve never had any go off doing that.

Recapping  die is the ticket for punching out all forms of primers.  Never had one pop.  I've popped a few with a hand primer on some 5.56 brass with crimped primer pockets before.  That'll make a guy jump  :chuckle:

Theres nothing creating pressure so nothing is gonna explode on you.  That big opening at the top called a case mouth kind of let's the games out :chuckle:

Yeah, I had one go off a long time ago.  Mostly just a little pop.  It did turn my finger tips black, but dish soap fixed that.

I have the Lee Universal Decapping Die and knocked out atleast 50 live primers with no problem. I think you really have to use quick brunt force to make them go off.

You probably should wear eye protection when knocking out live printers just in case one does go off.

I have removed many live primers. I have had a Federal 215M primer go off in a RCBS press. While priming a .300 Win mag case. A bit loud other than that no other damage or concerns.

I've only ever had to do this once. It happened to be my very first attempt at hand loading and ya I got my very first primer inserted backwards  :o
I just threaded out the decapping pin so that it was quite long and gently ran the ram up unit the primer was pushed out. Started over and have never had a problem since.
