With a weekend of nice weather predicted, my wife and I are looking for something fun to get out in the woods for this weekend. I pulled my cameras at the end of september as I got lucky and tagged out early this year. In hindsight I should have left them to see when antlers start dropping but I dont have the highest quality cameras and didn't want to risk damaging them in the W. Washington rain. Has anyone seen blacktails shedding headgear yet?

Ive seen photos of it starting. Lots still packing

Thanks BoneAddict. This is our first year shed hunting (officially). We've gotten lucky and found a couple while out scouting. Don't have the highest of hopes but there was a 5x4 blacktail on one of our cams that inspired us to get out there.

Mid February is a good time to go look. If you look now I'd avoid hitting the same spot too often.
-
I had a feeling it was a bit early. Either way, family time in the woods is hard to beat.

yes for sure!

Getting to be prime time for sheds - but as mentioned above, mid-late Feb. is probably the best. Too early, find nothing. Too late, someone else got them. I've been keeping my eyes open and checking beds when out in the woods. I've already found my annual allotment of absolutely none, so I'm right on track for another average year.

two bucks crossed the road in front of me today, one had both antlers and the other one had only one antler. another 2 or 3 weeks will be good
-
Yup, we came home empty handed today as expected but I made sure to bring some old sheds out with us so my son could "find" some for us, ha! I dropped a couple in the middle of the trail ahead of him. His words..."Cant believe you didnt see that!". Still a fun day
-
 Sounds like a good day.
-
Saw a 1 antlered 2x3 yesterday.
-
If he was one antlered, how'd you know he was a 2x3? :chuckle: :sry:

I'm curious, do you leave your cams out in public lands? I have been wanting to get a set of trail cams, but figured they would just grow legs...for my confort,I would have to purchase a ; one to watch the trail and 1 to watch the trail cam just cathce the Ba%#$rD$.

Seen a nice 3 pt with one side. Time to hit the reprod and Scotch broom

Saw a nice 4 point with both sides must be tied on

All 3 bucks in my yard dropped 2 weeks ago.

I saw 2 bucks on the side of I-5 right by Cabelas in Lacey about a week and a half ago, both had dropped their antlers.

Going out this weekend, is there something to the advice of looking more in the south facing slopes ? I have found two black tail sheds in the last two years. Looking forward to trying to find more!!

Always had good luck around heavy cedar trees and openings in thick cover.
Found my first freshie on Feb 3rd, earliest one ever, 3 point. None since :dunno:

Saw a small buck still packing yesterday, But dog picked a good brown a week ago. Need to get out in the woods for a trip.
-
Hiked about six miles today in a new area . No sheds were found .
-
Hiked a good six miles in some prime blacktail territory on Saturday, didn't see anything. But then I'm the sort of guy who can't find the peanut butter in the pantry after my wife has explained to me (accurately) that it's on the third shelf, just to the left of the olives, staring me in the face...
