i know with duck hunting you have to set up a blind before you hunt so the ducks will get use to it is that the same with turkeys so are they so stupid you can just set it up and hunt that morning?

From what I've seen, you can set up a blind right as you start to hunt. Turkey's aren't as spooky to a new structure as say deer are. That being said, I'm setting up my blind before the season starts to avoid making to much noise or being spotted as I know the birds roost where that can probably see me.

good idea i will do that aftere school

I have a blind that I built 12 years ago and I built it at a location birds travel to and from.. A friend and I have killed 14 birds from that one blind over the years. Look for sign and pick a great location..it may pay off in years to come.

I have a popup 3 man, three 12 ft long adjustable heights, and 2 umbrella blinds. They are great and the birds will actually walk up to them and try to peek over or into them. As Yelp said, matter of preference when you set it up ... if you're on private land set it up early ... if public, I would just get there 5 minutes earlier. I superglued archery target points to some of my 12 ft blinds so they don't blow over or move as I set them up. Helps a lot if throwing sticks (archery), but otherwise you can get by with good camo. Just a note my umbrella blinds usually go over the top of me and my son on rainy days, and the popup is usually when its snowing and cold (sort of like now) ... alows me more time in the turkey woods even when the weathers bad. Great for the field edges when the birds come out to play instead of brushing up against the wet brush.

I really recommend if not using a pop up blind to clean ground get all the noisy twigs and branches pine needles and pine cones away from the bottom of the blind..I always bring extra cushions and snacks when sitting or most of my time napping...LOL. I love blinds when hunting with kids until they learn to stay still it helps a lot. Just remember safety too. I have seen other hunters walk by and look for the hen yelping in the brush...remember to be safe when hunting. There also is a level of patience needed for a blind hunt...I usually go out in the AM for the morning wake up...take a nap and then about 11 and sometimes its a different game...nothing like waking up and saying I don't have three decoys! :yike:...LOL

Yelp, Will my Final Approach laydown blind work. You can really get some good naps in them. :chuckle:

I had ticks on me 3 times one hot spring day in Colville area ... stopped and got spray that night, and now spray in advance ... also I carry a thermocell for all the early morning/late night sketters, knats, flys, bees, etc. !

Want to keep bugs off you....wear under armour heat gear or cold gear initial layer....like tights. Worth the price for that alone.....no ticks! :chuckle:
-
Good idea ... probably cheaper in the long run to after buying all the spray and paying for shipping each year. Thanks ...
