I need to go grind a couple matching custom ordered blades and get them to heat treat ASAP. They're billet steel right now, going up entirely from scratch.
Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on a Custom they wanted to start. Any shape, just about any size. I've got D2, ATS34, and one knife worth of S30V. It'll need to be requested by tomorrow at the latest for this round.
Let me know!
Thanks Guys!

wow I have looked at some past posts.nice knives..ya gonna be at the spokane gun show coming up?
-
No, not this year. Thanks though. Most of what I build is already sold. Haven't built up any inventory to speak of.

rainshadow , have you ever done a custom fillet knife , or could you ?
-
you ever done a knife from a file?
-
Don't do hand ground fillet knives, I can get really good production steel though. 440C, AUS8, etc. Good stainlesses. I've done a couple.
Tried a file once. Kinda cool to have the file teeth on the spine and the ricasso. I'd try one if the agreed upon price was right. The D2 stuff I'm doing are better quality, but hey' it's a novelty!

i have to ask, what do you think of making a knife out of leaf spring. i ask because i have some old ones and ive always wated to try
-
They do it, but it's kinda "Bushcraft." It's decent steel, but not the best.
-
sounds like me ;) does it hurt to cut the shape with heat?
-
It blows some carbon out, you want to grind into the last 1/8" or so, to make sure the alloy isn't inconsistent along the profile. Usually not a problem when cleaning up the cut. (When it's done it'll need heat treating, of course.)

sounds like i will be asking you lots of questions soon. i have always thought that was very cool stuff, i will let you know how it goes if you dont mind

No sweat.
