Title: NE corner foxes?
Post by: Bango skank on January 30, 2019, 01:47:25 AM: So supposedly there are a few red foxes running around ne corner, but all the cams i run, and all the time ive spent hiking in the snow looking for sheds and fresh lion tracks ive never gotten a fox on cam or found a set of tracks even. I also know a guy thats been trapping for years and never trapped one. Has anybody personally seen a fox in stevens / ferry / pend orielle counties?
The reason im curious is that ive read on other predator hunting forums that guys in other states get a lot of action using gray fox distress / urine to hunt coyotes. Wondering if it would be worth a try setting up a fox distress call and some red fox urine and hunting it on a cross wind. Im very skeptical about the claims ive heard of red foxes even existing around here.

that is no exaggeration right there! I bet I see 5 or 6 a year. This last year I saw no less than 10. CO has a healthy population as well.

I really don't think you have to mimic local prey, just have a sound that will kick in the prey drive. I've called a lot of coyotes with sounds of critters they've never seen but a sound that is in real distress.

It crossed in front of me then stopped and stared at me from about 10 yards off the road. It was early morning, about half an hour after sun up in mid summer. Only one I've seen in the NE.

Stake a yippie chihuahua out in the woods and you'll be surprised what shows up. In the woods it's relatively quiet and any disruptive sound brings predators in for a look.
