Title: Lead ammo ban for youth under 21 HB 1346
Post by: bigdave on January 30, 2019, 12:07:24 PM
My son shoots competitively using smallbore rifles (.22) This would effectively ban all youth shooting, period. (look at the full language of the bill and think about how you would be able to use "non-lead" .22 ammunition.  They are having a hearing for it this Friday at 10am.

Please Comment before Friday. (link provided) Youth Rifle clubs have strict protocols about lead safety already. My son has been shooting for 4 yrs and he has not had any increase in lead levels. I have his blood checked specifically for this reason. IMO this is an attempt to limit ammo and nothing else.

Sounds like they are using kids to open the door and likely plan on expanding it once the law is in place.

saw something weird this weekend.  Must of been from 1639.   Three guys in Bimart.   One was buying shells, and pidgeons, another buying shells, another standing in line behind.  She wanted ID on all three.   She refused to sell eventhough the guy under 21 wasnt buying anything?     :dunno:

so if Im in the store with my kid, does that mean I cant buy?   Just weird.    The lady acted like a Hillary and even called her supervisor to back her up.

I don’t agree with the bill, but there is the exemption for you to be able to buy the lead ammo and give it to your kid, so the only change is that your son couldn’t go buy it himself.

No, he already can't buy it himself. The change is no one except the parent could provide ammo. Clubs often supply ammo for their youth shooters. This bill would make that a fine-able offense. Or to loan a brick to another shooter who ran out....you could be fined. Oh and don't forget the random unscheduled inspections by the Dept. of Health, in which  the bill doesn't really specify are inspections of ranges or of your young shooters gear bag.

I had this happen, my stepson is 14, but looks older and nothing like me in the slightest. I'm 32 and have a baby face. Had to escalate to a manager and get a little loud before it was all said and done.

Did they finally sell to you?

I was just telling a co worker about it and she told me they refused to sell her husband a knife.  He  was there with his son (12) and he was picking out a knife with his giftcard.  An associate saw him hand the giftcard to his Dad.  They refused to sell it.   I guess this is a  :jacked: but with these  :mor:

Limit/ban youth opportunities with firearms= Less interest as they get older= less firearm ownership in the future= easier to get all firearms and ammunition banned permanently= Goal.

From their perspective, the problem that exists is that you a) own a firearm and b) deposit lead into the environment.

I can't find the exemption you mentioned, only the part about not being able transfer or supply the ammunition to the person under age.

They are trying to denigrate shooting as a sport.

Gun shops will have to put up a scare poster about lead bullets.

Moms will see that and won't want their kids in shooting clubs.

It's part of their "death by a thousand papercuts" strategy.

And, you have to hand it to them:   It is working.

We keep losing little bits at a time.        >:(

Let's also note that most all lead bullets with no jacketing are cheap 22lr ammo... there mya be some in jacketed bullets in some cowboy action  calibers but for the most part this is a snow job

Democrats aren't qualified to discuss guns or the well being of children.

Section 3(a), which also allows for the ammo to be given to the youth by anyone as long as it is permitted by their parent or legal guardian. So, the bill wouldn’t have any “safety” benefits, just a bunch more hoops to jump thru for no reason.

But now the Dept of Health could come in and double check your parenting skills.  :chuckle:

All competition .22 ammo for precision shooting that I have seen in 4 years is NOT jacketed. And believe me, if you are a serious shooter, it is not cheap ammo.

Ok I wasn't aware of that... My main point is this. All lead bullets with no jacketing make up a small percent of ammo, so trying to play this up as "child safety" and using the age of 21 is pure BS.

Doesn’t the bill state any bullet with lead? Not just non jacketed?

They need to be called out on their deliberate deception and/or gross stupidity, publically and otherwise. Will this become another law that LE will ignore adding further to the corporate chaos of Olympia.

A teenager for many years target practiced behind the barn now can no longer participate in youth rifle sports, a year later he enters the Armed Forces and given really big guns to practice with. What has the ill informed Olympia elite achieved? The state was not made safer, healthier, or more sane. And, their deception is more exposed.

:yeah:

"(a) It is unlawful for any person to sell, transfer, give, or otherwise make available any ammunition other than nonlead ammunition to a person who is under the age of twenty-one years. For the purposes of this section, "nonlead ammunition" means ammunition that does not contain any lead content, excluding trace amounts of lead."

My point has more to do with handling of most ammo does not put you in direct contact with lead.
