Title: Eyesight and small pins
Post by: KFhunter on February 02, 2019, 10:40:04 AM: I recently went to the eye doc and got some new contacts to correct astigmatism in my dominant eye.

With the contacts in I see downrange exceptionally well but the pins get blurry and I have to read at arms length, looking at fine detail up close got much harder with the contacts.

But with the contacts out I see the pins very well and can see up close exceptionally well, but downrange is getting more and more blurry.

I was excited to see fine detail down range, picking out horn and animals better than ever but my groups spread out with the contacts in due to blurry pins.

What do you all with similar vision issues do? Is there a better sight option than my 5 pin black gold with tiny pins? I'm thinking about taking out a couple pins to spread them out some, they're bunched up pretty tight.

I need a touch up. This is a problem now as I struggle with pins too. If I shoot lefty, which I can do well its all good. I prefer rght hand and bow is a rghty so frustrating. Reading as well is tougher. get a lasik done maybe???

Post by: vandeman17 on February 02, 2019, 10:54:22 AM: Two options are to get an extender on your sight to move it farther in front of your bow or you could mess with a single pin slider. I switched to single pin last year and like having just one pin in my sight picture.

Post by: tgomez on February 02, 2019, 07:55:41 PM: I am near sighted and 2400 in my right eye and 2200 in my left eye. I use a single pin sight that is point one nine in size. I don't use pins for that very reason, TOO MUCH CLUTTER. It is much easier for my eyes to focus on a small single pin. You have to experiment and see what works best for you.

How many times can you have lasik done?

Post by: Wolfdog2314 on February 04, 2019, 02:35:29 PM: I was having trouble with blurry pins with my 5 pin site. I switched to a Spot Hogg Fast Eddie XL single “double” pin and absolutely love it. The XL version comes with the extended dovetail which I have maxed out in length. My accuracy dramatically increased and no more clutter or blurry pins.
There’s downsides of course. But the increase in accuracy is well worth it.

I leave my site dialed to 30. Everything 40 and below I don’t have to touch my site at all. Highly recommend it!

I prefer a "reference" pin in my setups so shoot a 3 pin slider as I feel it's the best compromise for me. I had been using a .10 bottom pin for distance, but recently put on a new 3 pin and it has a .19. I didn't think I would like it, but it actually helps me focus as it's a brighter pin. It does cover a bit more of the target area at long distance and I am not sure if my target shooting will suffer as I haven't had the opportunity to do a bunch of long range yet, but for hunting ranges I think I will prefer it.

With your setup a single pin would likely work very well as is and/or double would he very good. You could always lighten up your arrow a bit to forgive yardage errors with less pins. Just an idea.

Post by: Piscatory_5 on May 04, 2019, 02:24:51 PM: Specialty archery verifier peep, like reading glasses for archery. Been using a few years, helps allot. Moving sight forward i think will make your pins get closer together but may improve your aiming.

If you just remove pins your spacing of pins will still be the same
