If you were to go out and buy a new scope for a 30-06 in the 200-350 price range what would you buy and why?
-
easy, leupold! for the quality, price and warranty! and I have a sweet hook up for you!
-
leupold vxII 3-9x40 because it's american made and the warranty is top notch.
about $299 i think. thats what is on my 30-06 currently.

I have several Nikon scopes and have not had a single issue with any of them. Sharp, bright,
durable and in your range :twocents:
-
There is a Pentax lightseeker in the classifieds for $225 they sell for around $600.My Friend had one and they are very clear there warranty is just like Leupold.
-
All of the top brand names make a great scope, I like Nikon, Sightron and Weaver(V series best bang for the buck). I have a couple of leupolds and they are good but it is the only scope that I've ever had to use the warrenty. If I were to scope a 30-06 for deer and elk now I'd look at a 1.5x6x42, 2x7, 2.5x8 or 3x9. I like having a larger FOV on the bottom end and 6x to 9x is plenty for long shots on big game.

I HAVE HAD GREAT LUCK WITH SIMMONS, IVE A HAD A WHITETAIL CLASSIC ON MY BIG KICKER FOR YEARS, NICE AND BRIGHT, NEVER FOGGED, REAL HAPPY WITH EM
-
Your money? Leupold.
My money?...Bushnell Elite 4200 ($249), Nikon Team Primos ($199), Zeiss Conquest($350)
All of the scopes I listed have VX3 quality glass and better construction....Less likely to need to use the warranty.
-
Bushnell Elite, Nikon, Leupold, Burris, maybe even look at the new Vortex scopes.
They are all excellent scopes

I have this same scope, love it. Go with Leopold.

I have the 40mm VX-2 3-9 on my 300 wby. Nothing but good results so far. Sighted it in 4 years ago, haven't had to make an adjustment since. Usually put a 3-shot group down range at the end of every hunting season just to be sure. Very consistant! :)
I don't believe I'll ever by another scope/bino that doesn't have a life-time warrantee.
-
I don't believe I'll ever by another scope/bino that doesn't have a life-time warrantee.
Are you suggesting that Nikon doesn't have a lifetime warrantee? :dunno:
-
I have a Leupold 3x9x40 on my 30-06, and it works great! Cant go wrong with that scope!
-

Nikon does indeed have a life-time warranty on their scopes.
Having a life-time warranty just gives me the reassurance that if I break it, they'll replace it...No questions asked.
-
Leupold.
-
NIKON
-
:chuckle:
-
All good....I however like Burris Signature or Fullfield.
-
NIKON BDC HAVE ONE LOVE IT......
-
Well I purchased a Nikon Monarch 3-12x42. It was by far the best looking scope that I looked through in the price range. I got a smoking deal with it on clearance and also a 20% coupon on top of that. I plan on taking it out tomorrow but I am really happy so far we will see if that continues after I shoot with it.

If you were to go out and buy a new scope for a 30-06 in the 200-350 price range what would you buy and why?
You have gotten a lot of answers so far, but no one has bothered to ask what type of hunt you are going to use it for? :dunno:
-
Leupold or Burris is what mine wear, but I'm open to Nikon and Bushnell in that price range.
-
Millett
Well, depends on what you're using it for. :)
-
Nikon
-
Nikon Pro Stall with BDC.
Have one on my daughters gun and love it.
For the money you can not beat the quality or value of this scope.
-
I'd buy a leupold, thats what I've got on all my CF rifles.
-
Luepold VX-II 3-9x40mm 8)
-
Luepold, Burris or Nikon. Really don't think you could go that wrong.
-
Leupold is my scope of choice. They have never disappointed me...

Burris :twocents:

I have a nikon prostaff 3x9 BDC. I had a leupold 3x9 on it before and I didn't have much luck with it. I didn't give it a chance I guess. It could of been my ammo or maybe just a bad one in the bunch, but I got rid of it and got the nikon. Love it
-
I don't believe I'll ever by another scope/bino that doesn't have a life-time warrantee.
Are you suggesting that Nikon doesn't have a lifetime warrantee? :dunno:
I'll suggest that. At least on my Bino's, Nikon's warranty is a 25 year "no-fault" warranty. It was explained to me that you could run'em over with your truck basically and send'em in and for $10 they replace'em. Thats not lifetime, but it's certainly pretty damn good, and would not be what made the difference in a purchase for me if I liked the scope..
-
Zeiss is my choice no matter what you hunt.
-
Zeiss is my choice no matter what you hunt.
I have 3 different brands: 1, Zeiss Conquest Z1000 6.5-20x50. 2, Swarovski AV 3-10x42. 3, Leupold VXIII 4.5-14x50 (several other powers, I think this is the best of the Leupolds that I have).
This is the order in which I would rate the scopes, it has to be the Zeiss :IBCOOL:
-
It is truely hard to beat a Leupold and if you can make it to Spokane to buy it at the White Elephant a 3x9 x 40 is only about 200.00 dollars. White Elephant is closed sunday and monday.
-
Leupold is my scope of choice. They have never disappointed me...
Never had an issue with them. My rifle is a tack driver

nikons warranty is 25 years for bino's, spotters and field scopes...
If your Nikon binocular, spotting scope or Fieldscope requires service or repair not covered by our 25-Year Limited Warranty, Nikon will repair or replace it—even if it was your fault—for just $10, plus return shipping and handling.
lifetime for other stuff i guess :dunno:
At Nikon, we believe the best warranty is one you’ll never have to use. For this reason, we crafted the Nikon Lifetime Full Warranty, which provides confidence on those rare occasions when something goes wrong. If any Nikon riflescope is found to have defects in workmanship or materials, we will, at our option, repair or replace it at no charge, even if you are not the original owner. No time limit applies and no
warranty card is required.

Got a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10 x 50 with the B&C reticle on my deer slayer.......Awesome!!
I would definitely recommend the purchase of a leupold!!
-
phool...if you look at their site...what do you make of the other warranty explanation i posted above you:

it states a 25 year limited warranty, not a lifetime, for binocular, spotting scopes or field scopes. field scopes are their upscale spotters i believe is whati decided. seems that maybe riflescopes are left out of that so maybe they have a lifetime, but bino's and spotters do not. :dunno: i have a couple nikon scopes and a pair of bino's so i am curious too.
-

I am refering to their rifle scopes, that is what the author of the thread originally asked for, not bino's, spotters or field scopes. ;)
-
I learned everything I know about optics from Tommy Boy :chuckle:
"Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of sh*t. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time."

Alls I run is leupold, not only all the other stuff but if you had to you could drive down there if your in a pinch
-
One more vote for Leupold.
-
Burris Fullfield II or Leupold VX-II
-
Leupold all the way....tho I'd like a Swarovski if I could afford it.
-
Nikon Pro Staff 3x9 BDC, Burris Fullfield II, Leupold VX, in that order for me. I have all three and they are all pretty close, but the Nikon is the clearest and least expensive of the three.
Can't really go wrong with any of the three though.
-
Burris Signature Select
-
From now on Leupold.
-
Nikon prostaff 3 x 9 with a BDC reticle and you still have money left over. Great scope, great price.
-
Leupold VX-III 4.5 - 14 x 50. 30mm tube. Reason -- No Worries.
-
hey Hunt...if you can find one of those in the 250-350 price range, i'll take 3. i think your choice is a little rich for the original poster's blood.
:dunno:

Used -- I buy most of my scopes used..... As long as they are leupold
I'll keep an eye out for ya
P.S. Still looking for someone to pack my rifle around for me in November....

I will take 3 also.

Leupold, I have Bushnell Trophy scopes also and I took two of my rifles out on the range last Wednesday, It was hot so I shot one than changed to the other one and I tell you my $300+ Bushnell trophy is garbage compared to the Leupold VX-III
-
Dude, if you paid $300+ for a Bushnell Trophy....well......I don't know what to say.
See if you can get your $ back.
-
you can get a real nice leupold of craigslist for that price. I missed out on a VXIII 3-9x40the other night for 250, some one beat me out by $10 in the last 11 sec. Best thing is, if it shows up all jacked up you send it to leupold and there transferable warranty covers it.
-
In that price range, I would shop around for a used VariXIII. I have picked up a few VariXIII's for ridiculously low prices on the internet over the past few years. They have a great lifetime warranty. If you can't find one, I would buy the nicest VXII you could afford. You can't go wrong with a Leupold.
-

:yeah:
Ditto... I was a little confused about a "$300+" Trophy. Hopefully, it was a typo. If not, you got ripped.

Nightforce Scope - Best scopes on the market. Heavier than most scopes. Cost is over $1000. If you want a scope that will last forever and not change POI then this is the only scope you should consider. ALL OTHERS WILL CHANGE POI. Go to www.nightforceoptics.com
This is what I use for hunting.
REM700 PSS 300WM :IBCOOL:
3.5-15X50 NXS
Nightforce picatinny rail
Nightforce Rings

judging by your 1st 3 posts...you seem to be a nightforce sales guy or something.

I just saw a couple Leupolds on CL for 175-200 (used) can't go wrong with Leupold
-
As I have recently been in the position to have to purchase a scope, I have 3 rifles and one scope, I did a bit of research, and it all said to not buy BSA ;)
I ended up with a Leupold VXI, 4-12x40 for my 300. It ran me $259 + tax. It does everything I want and came at a good price. Do I know that it is not a VX2 or 3, of course, but it was a choice I feel confident in. I wanted a scope with a touch more magnification than a 3-9 but with the quality behind it.
I picked up another of ebay for 223 shipped this week also, it will go on my 243.
-

:dunno:
Yeah, what's up with that? Ya better cough up some hunting info or photos or you are sure making your scope company look deceptive...
-
I am a saleman....But I sell pharmaceuticals. I have done my research.
1000 yrd bench rest records have nightforce scopes on them.
Special forces use Nightforce Scopes
Have seen a leupold scope get smashed with a nightforce with nothing happening to the nightforce. We use to hit these on steel posts to make sure they didn't change point of impact.
Ok Ok. I use to work there....I have seen every high end scope known to man. They all change point of impact. Nightforce uses a special bedding compound on its lenses that prevent this from happening. If your only shooting animals at 100-300 yards then your probably fine with just about any scope. If you want the best of the best then you buy Nightforce. If your going to spend over 1k then you should consider Nightforce. If you don't like the weight of the scope then join the gym!! :chuckle:
-
Gotta go with a Leupold.
-
my good friend over here has a zeiss on his drilling(2-12guagebarrels over a 30.06) that he has adjusted once in 28 years.
my other friend on a chamois hunt lost his rifle 200 feet down a rock slide and it still shot right on. schmidt and bender.
-
In this order of preference....
1) Leupold
2) Bushnell Elite 4200
3) Nikon Team Primos
4) Zeiss Conquest
You will never be sorry with the Leupold and if your change your mind or want to upgrade, it can be resold for very little if any loss. The others are outstanding products for the money.

I may be shopping in the wrong place but haven't seen any Zeiss Conquests for $350 unless they offer a fixed 4x or something?? If there is somewhere send me a link!! I'll buy a couple.
