I want to load some up for my son in S.C. He is in the Air Force and based at Fort Sumpter. He has killed quite a few with his 300 blkout with 120 grain FMJ with head shots but he is looking for a better all around hunting bullet in the 150 gr or so.
He wants an all copper ( Barnes, GMX etc) but I'm concerned about expansion at such low velocities. I'm a bonded bullet guy but at his velocities ( 1700 to 1900 fps, Im thinking maybe a BT or maybe a Honady Interlock
We killed a few last time I was down there with head shots with the FMj and they drop like a sack of spuds

I have played with the lehigh bullets a little that are made for the 300blk that are all copper and made to expand at low velocity's. You might look into them.

This bullet looks like it could be a winner and will open and preform down to 1500fps.

What is the ME you refrred too?
I think he wants something that he can still head shoot at close range and something for broadside shots out to 100 yards. The more I think about it the more I think a non bonded but on the tougher side might be the ticket. I have some 200 gr Partitions that I shoot out of my 300win mag but he doesnt want them that heavy
160 gr Partition?

The ME is a bullet from them designed to expand in like 900-1200 fps range when running subsonic.

The reason I ask, here in Oklahoma I have seen wild boar on every deer hunt I have been on. They are easy to find, but my god they stink to high heaven!
I could smell them from hundreds of yards away, and they are the foulest animal I have encountered.
I have no problem exterminating them on sight because they are a plague, but if I could get past the smell I would try BBQing one up.
But only if it is worth the effort to put up with that foul stench!

Shoot a 60 to 80 pounder and give it a try. I like that they are open year round also. My son was out in his stand tonight with his bow. Had 12 or so come in, close to a shot but wind swapped just enough to booger him

I ate a little one (maybe 50 sounds) that I shot in TX last year. Marinated the backstraps in Italian dressing for a day then grilled. Very tasty.
Hearing good things about the 150 grain Speer Gold Dot for an inexpensive supersonic load that expands at .300 BLK velocities, but I have not tried them.

Heavier bullet weight is not the answer for supersonic 300 Blk. Your son will be a lot better off just choosing a better bullet than FMJ in the 110-125gr range. FMJ pretty much sucks, and there are a lot better options available for hunting. 150gr and heavier is not the answer, unless you're just looking for more FMJ-like performance. The 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tip for example will do everything he's looking for in a 300 Blackout.
