Title: leupold vx3i 6.5 x 20
Post by: Wanderer on February 12, 2019, 06:48:14 PM
anyone have any experience with this scope ?   saw it at the Portland show and looking to buy.  was looking at the 6hd but this is much less cost.
the custom guy told me I could put in a regular reticle at no upcharge as well as a low profile turret for a small charge.

Depends on what distances you plan on shooting.  6.5 is really too much magnification on the low end in my opinion for a short distance shot.  At 50 yards you might not know what part of a deer you are looking at.  I would look for something from 3-5 power on the  low end.

I have 5 rifles that all have vx3i's in various magnification ranges and they have all been trouble free and great optics.

Any cds dials? If so, how’d those perform? Any issue with them tracking back to zero?

I plan on using it for shooting at a minimum 200 yds.  course the plans don't always work out so i'll just have to figure out a 50yd shot when needed.    I missed out on a 400+ yd shot a couple years ago cause I couldn't see it well enough with my scope.   want that to be the last time that happens.  i'm expecting it to be the usual good quality from leupold.

The vx3 and vx3i is my go to for longer range scopes. The dials are great if you get your info spot on and then account for variations in environment etc. Like any dial system.

I have never has any problems with the many vx3/I I own or have sold. They track true and are solid scopes.

Leupold is good glass and great warranty if needed.  I would seriously look at the 4.5-14 or 3-18 if they offer than in the VX 3i.  better optical range than the 6.5-20
