To bad they're only looking at pesticides and not herbicides.

Reading the proposed bill, it looks like they talk about both pesticides and herbicides.

In this case they are considering herbicide as a class of pesticide

Herbicides are routinely grouped in as a pesticide. Don't expect much, as the chemical and timber companies donate equally to both sides of the aisle, and they donate a lot.

A little clarification:  'Pesticide' is the term that includes all of the 'cides'.

Insecticide, fungicide, nemacide, herbicide, aquacade, etc., ect.  there are a lot of 'em.

I really don't see why timber companies would be opposed to this.  :dunno:

The public has very little understanding of chemicals and how they work, and a broad group of interests getting together and discussing and highlighting the facts should put the public's mind at ease.

Not being able to educate the public has always been a problem. Chemicals are scary when you don't understand them, and the problem has been that if you cant teach someone something in about 30 seconds their eyes glaze over. It also takes at least some background in biology/chemistry to think critically on it and not suspect someones blowing smoke.

There is a lot of misinformation out there, hopefully this group will alleviate the tensions and correct the record.

I can see there being the potential of it being like the wolf group though where it doesnt matter what science is presented, the sides are already dug in with preconceived notions with their own end goals in mind.

The real issue/problem with Herbicides is that the companies who use them are killing the food sources for Deer and Elk. Many areas are vacant of much game due to monoculture forestry and the lack of food due to herbicide use. As well, some question whether hoof rot in elk is related to the chemical spraying.

Read the book TOXIC PEARL if you want to see why this bill is a GREAT idea.

The substitute bill updated by Senate Agriculture, Water, Natural Resources & Parks (originally
sponsored by Senators Rolfes, Saldaņa, McCoy, Conway, and Hasegawa).

Has the verbiage listed as "Herbicide", as opposed to original "Pesticide" verbiage from the original version.

Timber companies support the use of herbicides because slash burning clear cuts is no longer viable or allowed under clean air act regulations.

Exactly. Read the rest of my post... I'd think they'd see this as an opportunity to educate. The bill would create a work group to look into everything related to aerial spraying, which is fine.  I see this bill as a response by legislators to their constituents' concerns over aerial spraying. The vast majority of these constituents do not understand the science of these chemicals, the regulations, practices, etc.  Education can only help.

I completely understand the dangers ,of oil base chemicals.A year after being sprayed there in all the berrys, and food the wildlife eat.iI also understand no oversight, and chemicals being mixed the EPA doesn't approve.

This should be a true public working group.as we saw with the hoof rot group there was only 1 member that was truly from the public.
