Do any of you use any special socks a buddy said he bought a pair of nice hiking socks was impressed with them but were 30 dollars I've always used carhartt boot socks was hoping for some opinions on if it's worth the money
-
Darn Tuffs are great. I also like my carhartt wool socks and Lorpens.

Darn tuff socks hunting/every day use for me.

Smartwool and darn tough are the only socks I own now, from everyday office wear to running on the treadmill to 12 mile backpacking days. They make all different weights and activities. And with a little research on the web, you can typically get them around the 10-15 dollar mark.
-
Another dArn tuff user here. When it's cold or I am using rubber boots I will also usually have thicker boot socks as well, lorpen or smart wool have been good to me. Good socks are arguably just as, if not more, important than the boots imo.
-
I have some realtree wool socks that I like more than my other socks. I think they were about $8 for the pair. I thought that was bad, then read about other $ock$.

Darn tough or cabelas xpg merino ones for me

I own quite a few pairs of smartwool and really like them. I wait for Bobs to have their buy 1 get 1 half off sales.
-
Darn tough or smart wool. I would also suggest a good sock liner.
-
Darn Tough. For the last two years I have used my one pair of dt's for every hunting, hiking, scouting trip. They hold up worth the investment.
-
Ive tried several high end socks Darn tough and Lorpen have been by far the best socks I have ever used for longevity. I bought some smart wool socks this year before my elk hunt and by the time it was over there was noticeable wear. I doubt they will last beyond next season. I have some Darn toughs that are 4 years old along with Lorpens that have barely any wear

I use liner socks and then merino socks over those. I haven’t gone brand specific yet. Just using the liners and merino have helped my feet.

Darn tough or cabelas xpg merino ones for me
ive warn the Cabela’s xpg for a couple years now. And my feet feel great. I’ve had very little wear issue but I bought quite a few pairs
-
I wear a merino outer layer over my liners. I like lorpens or my new favorite sock is the KUIU over calf merino socks, they have great padding and fit really good.

My xpg are all light or mid weight, like the thickness of normal socks. They have been very durable for me. My darn tough ones are all heavier weight.
-
Another vote for Darn Tough. I'd also suggest checking out FITS. Both just don't seem to ever wear out.

DT has different weights and lengths.

You ever feel like you live under a rock? I never heard of Darn Tough socks before today. I'll be checking them out! :)

Same here, Will have to look into the DT socks. I did get started wearing Lorpens 2-3 years ago for hunting and no complaints, really glad I bought some. Starting to think I should be wearing them all the time not just hiking and hunting.

All mine just happen to be heavy weight over the calf ones. 2 sets came with my boots and the third was an impulse buy on a hunting trip. I’ve got 5-6 pairs of the xpg that just won’t wear out so I’ll keep using them.
I wasn’t meaning to imply that all the DTs are heavy.

I liked the old style. The new ones not so much. The old ones did wear out really fast but at the their price I couldn't complain. Just bought a lot :chuckle:

I can buy a 2 year supply of costco socks for the same price as 1 DT pair.

I wear darn tough for everything now and love them! I tried to wear a pair out using that pair exclusively for 6 months and couldn’t.

A hard rode sock is one of those things that should only last so long to allow regular replacing.

Buy once cry once? All I know is I just ordered two more pair of DTs to use for work while traveling. I just got back from a trip to San Diego where I rucked them in and out of the ocean all week up to 7 miles a day on the same pair without washing. They are amazingly tough and treat me well. I finally did wear a hole in the heel of another pair and would bet it took over 300 miles.
You can literally buy a pair and not need to pay to replace them forever. If you want to put miles on something, they are a bargain. If you only need to use them for a few miles once a year, there may be more cost effective options.

Georgia boot makes some decent ones that won’t break the bank. I’m in my boots 8 plus hours a day and no complaints.
