I am willing to drive anywhere in WA to find the best bowshop who will spend the most time with me on a new bow. I am looking to buy a very high quality bow, but more importantly I want it perfectly tuned and setup for me so that when I walk out the door, I am 100% ready.
Compound bows are complicated as hell and frankly I don't have the expertise to work on one well. I need a shop that will slow down and take time to work on something with me for as long as it takes. I have gone through two bow shops so far (Nock Point and Great Northwest Archery) and both are rushing me out the door after selling me a product.
So, who's got the skinny on a great archery shop that I can give some cash to?

Come down to Vancouver to Archery World. Not only is Joe Mallicoat a superior bowman and Marine, he's very active in the community and has helped many kids get into bowhunting through discounts, freebies, and other generosity. You can't go wrong with Joe and Archery World.
I would 2nd archery world, they have always been good to me when I have had them work on a bow.

Try Rock Creek Archery in Enumclaw. For sure worth a stop at. That is where I bought my bow. Denton I think is the owner? Really nice guy, super patient, and won't steer you wrong.

I use XXX for my bow work. Lucky Shot in Chehalis has a good selections of bows and nice range setup. Most shops are owner operated so understand that every person who walks in the door is potential business, and they are likely trying to do bow work, supply orders, arrow fletching, stocking, all while trying to show bows to customers, get guys setup and play cashier. If it were me I would try to make an appointment and go in to get fitted, get in a bow, and just be prepared to stay awhile. This time of year its not usually a madhouse in the shop, so during a weekday there is usually breaks in customers and that's when individual service can be had. Personally, I think the advice of shoot a bunch of bows is kind of lost on new archers. Get one that fits right, and is very comfortable in draw weight, just something to keep in mind when asking the shop owners to set 15 different rigs.

Buy new and buy quality. I am willing to give my money to a good shop but not if they're going to just hand me a bow and show me the door. I've had this happen a couple times now and I won't go through it again.

Riverside Archery has always been good to me and my buddies.
They just did this very thing for my hunting buddy, and he didn't buy the bow there.
Make sure to inform them you want them to take some time and work through it with you. Give them a heads up, and I bet they come thru, they just need to know your expectations.

I bought a bow online (Diamond Edge Infinite) and Nock Point shamed me for buying a bow online and not in their store (they were serious, too, not joking) and GNW shamed me for the bow I bought, not that I bought it online. He called it a kids bow and wouldn't take any time dialing it in. I even offered to pay him for taking time to do it and he wasn't interested.Sorry to hear that. There is nothing wrong with the bow you bought. You can kill a deer with that bow just as easily as with top of the line setup.
Doesn't bother me though, just means they won't get my cash now that I am ready to spend.

Buy only from a bow shop and not a canned store.
Rule 2
Buy somewhat close to home or a distance you are willing to travel. Bow shops do not like to repair or fix work another shop did, and certainly wont work on a bow you purchased somewhere else for free.

Additionally there are very few shops where you can shoot Bowtech and Mathews at the same shop.

Greatnorthwest is where I bought my bow last year. Never felt rushed about any of the process. He is a one person show, so maybe that was why you felt rushed?? I bought the bow, had it set up, cam timing confirmed, paper tuned and dialed in at 20 yards before I left the store.
I’ve had nothing but good experiences buying bows from Doug at great northwest archery as well. He takes his time and sets you up right.

With that said, if you are going to spend the money, i'd recommend you also spend some money and get your own press (around $250 for EZ Gree Press) and a draw board ($100). Strings will fall out of tune, nocks will rotate, new arrows will take it out of tune, new rests, a drop, etc.
Learning to do it yourself is a long term investment and it's really not that hard with YouTube and series from Bowtech, Dudley, and Gillingham among others. Don't be intimated by it all. It's actually easier than you think.
I'd be willing to bet if you never learn it, and always take it into a shop when something pops up, you're going to lose the interest and passion that drives a lot of us and your money will go to waste or you might make a shot that results in a lost animal or miss. I feel having good enough results is not good enough for the animals we pursue and you should be doing everything in your power and time to get it as good as possible to your skill set and level.

I drive 3 hrs to do business with XXX archery. This is slower time of year and wont be a mad house with orders and people. Corey will take the time and treat you great.And you get to play with giant bulldogs.
