Hello,
I am willing to drive anywhere in WA to find the best bowshop who will spend the most time with me on a new bow. I am looking to buy a very high quality bow, but more importantly I want it perfectly tuned and setup for me so that when I walk out the door, I am 100% ready.
Compound bows are complicated as hell and frankly I don't have the expertise to work on one well. I need a shop that will slow down and take time to work on something with me for as long as it takes. I have gone through two bow shops so far (Nock Point and Great Northwest Archery) and both are rushing me out the door after selling me a product.
So, who's got the skinny on a great archery shop that I can give some cash to?

Come down to Vancouver to Archery World. Not only is Joe Mallicoat a superior bowman and Marine, he's very active in the community and has helped many kids get into bowhunting through discounts, freebies, and other generosity. You can't go wrong with Joe and Archery World.
-
I buy and set up my own (I'm average at the very best in my endeavors, LOL) so I understand your position. I have heard nothing but exceptional comments/reviews on XXX Archery down across the big bridge in Rainier, OR. Its a bit of a drive but again, I have not heard anything but positive experiences from those who have dealt with them.

Nock Point has been excellent to me. Talk to Michael, the younger guy. He's been incredible at working with my buddies and I to adjust cam timing, draw weight, chrono-ing our bow, talking broadhead performance and arrows... too bad you didn't have the same experience. I won't go anywhere else.

I would 2nd archery world, they have always been good to me when I have had them work on a bow.

Sportco in fife ask for Ryan. If you are ready to buy go sooner than later. Don't leave until you shoot a bullet hole through paper :)
-
Greatnorthwest is where I bought my bow last year. Never felt rushed about any of the process. He is a one person show, so maybe that was why you felt rushed?? I bought the bow, had it set up, cam timing confirmed, paper tuned and dialed in at 20 yards before I left the store.

...or in the floor! :o
Sorry, too soon? :chuckle:
Try Rock Creek Archery in Enumclaw. For sure worth a stop at. That is where I bought my bow. Denton I think is the owner? Really nice guy, super patient, and won't steer you wrong.

I bought a bow online (Diamond Edge Infinite) and Nock Point shamed me for buying a bow online and not in their store (they were serious, too, not joking) and GNW shamed me for the bow I bought, not that I bought it online. He called it a kids bow and wouldn't take any time dialing it in. I even offered to pay him for taking time to do it and he wasn't interested.
Doesn't bother me though, just means they won't get my cash now that I am ready to spend.

Are you looking to buy a bow or just setup what you have?
I use XXX for my bow work. Lucky Shot in Chehalis has a good selections of bows and nice range setup. Most shops are owner operated so understand that every person who walks in the door is potential business, and they are likely trying to do bow work, supply orders, arrow fletching, stocking, all while trying to show bows to customers, get guys setup and play cashier. If it were me I would try to make an appointment and go in to get fitted, get in a bow, and just be prepared to stay awhile. This time of year its not usually a madhouse in the shop, so during a weekday there is usually breaks in customers and that's when individual service can be had. Personally, I think the advice of shoot a bunch of bows is kind of lost on new archers. Get one that fits right, and is very comfortable in draw weight, just something to keep in mind when asking the shop owners to set 15 different rigs.

Buy new and buy quality. I am willing to give my money to a good shop but not if they're going to just hand me a bow and show me the door. I've had this happen a couple times now and I won't go through it again.

Riverside Archery has always been good to me and my buddies.
They just did this very thing for my hunting buddy, and he didn't buy the bow there.
Make sure to inform them you want them to take some time and work through it with you. Give them a heads up, and I bet they come thru, they just need to know your expectations.

Riverside Archery in Mt. Vernon will do a great job in taking care of you. He has a wide line to choose from. Mathews, Bowtech, Hoyt, etc. Gary and his son will get you all set up. I have purchased multiple new bows from his shop.

Riverside did a great job for me as well.

Sorry to hear that. There is nothing wrong with the bow you bought. You can kill a deer with that bow just as easily as with top of the line setup.

Archery World in Vancouver.

I understand the customer service is high on your list but equally important is the bow you choose. Shoot as many different bows as you can and purchase the one you're gonna be happy with and visit as many different shops as you can and hopefully you find a shop you'll be happy with and purchase the bow that you want. Shops like Riverside, XXX and Archery world have multiple high end brands to choose from.

Archery world joe or kyle.

I've had really good experiences at the Nock Point and at Rock Creek Archery in Enumclaw. I know XXX Archery down south somewhere has a really great reputation.
-
I drive 3 hrs to do business with XXX archery. This is slower time of year and wont be a mad house with orders and people. Corey will take the time and treat you great.
-
Rule 1
Buy only from a bow shop and not a canned store.
Rule 2
Buy somewhat close to home or a distance you are willing to travel. Bow shops do not like to repair or fix work another shop did, and certainly wont work on a bow you purchased somewhere else for free.
-
If you are near Mount Vernon you wont be disapointed with Riverside. Gary is a huge supporter of Silver Arrow Bowmen and was a member as a little kid. If you want help getting dialed in just ask. Often times folks think/act like they know it all. If you dont present that way they will be eager to help. I've been fortunate enough to have bought 2 bows from him along with other gear and not felt the need to go elsewhere.
Additionally there are very few shops where you can shoot Bowtech and Mathews at the same shop.

I’ve had nothing but good experiences buying bows from Doug at great northwest archery as well. He takes his time and sets you up right.

:yeah:
Denton won’t *censored* you. And he has lessons available.

You want the best bow tuner in the state bar none go see charles at peninsula bow shop in belfar !!! IMHO !!! He's pretty busy on the weekends but during the week your good. He has new and used bows. He will set your bow up to EXACT specs than the rest is up to you.He is the master of tune and will have you shooting nocks off before you leave. Ask the rest how many classes they have been to than ask charles.

I'll second this Ryan does a great job and will make sure your set up right before you leave and has no problem with answering as many questions that you have.
I've dealt with him several times

Kyle's gone.

Another  for Denton at Rock Creek. I do all my own tuning and work but I drive to Denton from Yakima for strings. My bow is always tuned and looking crisp
-
Rock Creek in Enumclaw
-
Riverside archery in mt Vernon. Hands down the best guys to get you set up. They’ll spend all the time you need getting you set up and dialed in.
-
Rock Creek for me too. Especially if you can get down during the week during work hours. He got me setup quick with bullet holes in no time and peep aligned. But he didn't do yoke or cam timing, but i have a press and it needed a few twists here and there for a true tune. you can tune a bullet hole with a rest, but it's not going to be in the sweet spot for the bow and will show up farther down range. I'm always interested to see someone else's process and beliefs so i went in there acting like a rookie.
With that said, if you are going to spend the money, i'd recommend you also spend some money and get your own press (around $250 for EZ Gree Press) and a draw board ($100). Strings will fall out of tune, nocks will rotate, new arrows will take it out of tune, new rests, a drop, etc.
Learning to do it yourself is a long term investment and it's really not that hard with YouTube and series from Bowtech, Dudley, and Gillingham among others. Don't be intimated by it all. It's actually easier than you think.
I'd be willing to bet if you never learn it, and always take it into a shop when something pops up, you're going to lose the interest and passion that drives a lot of us and your money will go to waste or you might make a shot that results in a lost animal or miss. I feel having good enough results is not good enough for the animals we pursue and you should be doing everything in your power and time to get it as good as possible to your skill set and level.
Sorry for the sidetrack, just wanted the throw that out there....Good luck!

And you get to play with giant bulldogs.

Im really happy with the bow shop in BOBs Sporting goods in Longview.. I was having issues at another shop and he has completely changed the way I thought of bow shops.. Very helpful and because if that he will get my Money.
-
I have had nothing but good luck with Bill or Miachel at the Nock Point. Gary at Riverside Archery is good too.
-
I’ve had equally great experiences with Denton @ Rock Creek Archery and the guys at Riverside in Mt Vernon. Both were very helpful, answered all of my questions (I usually bring a lot of em! I always try to learn from pros when I have the chance) and took as much time as needed to get things right. It probably helped that I’m able to get into their shops during weekday business hours AND ideally, not two weeks before season opener 😏
