Title: Anyone else think the reticle is too thick on the Leupold Freedom?
Post by: Eric M on March 01, 2019, 10:30:29 PM
I got the 4-12 and it completely obscured the targets bullseye at 100 yards. Mounted it on a .17 hmr. Not sure there is a remedy. My best group at 100 is just over 2 inches.

I was hoping to hear more feedback on this topic.  I was just about ready to order the same scope until reading this.

Go look through one at the store. I wanted to love this scope. I wondered if it was just me. It might work for hunting larger game. I'm not liking it for punching holes on paper.

I was looking at putting a 2x7 on a .22 build. No one around here has the Freedom. Found a VX2 but I’m not wanting to pay that much on this gun. I ordered the Vortex Crossfire II in Rimfire with the same magnification. I was gonna order the Leupold or Diamondback if I wasn’t happy. Interested in more feedback on the Freedom as well.

So how beneficial is it to have a rimfire specific scope? Ive never had a scoped rimfire before, but i just bought a .22wmr and am planning to just put a vortex diamondback hp on it because i have one laying around.

In this particular case it has to do with parallax. The rimfire is set at 50 yd in the Vortex. The Freedom rimfire has the hashes I believe and is set at 60 yds.

For most of what I’ll using it for will be 75 and under. I wasn’t jacked about the hash marks which is partly why I went to Vortex. Maybe a fixed 100 yd parallax would be ok?

In your instance I’d probably not go with a rimfire version. But that’s entirely up to your situation and where you’re going to be using it the most. Mine will be on a bike for diggers/grouse mostly in the woods. I’ll use it on rats too, but might swap out to something else depending on ranges.

I've got a Nikon 2-7 on a .22 and I really like it.

I only see a T-MOA reticle listed for these. Seems a bit gimmicky for a lower priced scope, a straight duplex or a LR reticle would be better for the shooters targeted for this scope. Not sure what the subtension is on this but it looks fairly slim, 1/4 MOA?  Try shooting at lower magnifications if you are maxing it out on magnification at 100 and covering a 1” bull.

If I didn't like the reticle like I did on mine I sent it to Leopold and had them change it out.

The tri moa reticle has a hash every 1 moa.
