Title: AR-15 sights
Post by: ctwiggs1 on March 10, 2019, 06:09:16 PM
Just picked up a brand spankin' new AR.... without sights

I've got about $200 in Amazon cards sitting around, any recommendations?  I kinda like the M16A2 look (veterans nastalgia :chuckle:), but I'm pretty open minded on this one.

TIA!

Depends on the type of ar you got is it just the rail on the upper or does it have a hand guard with rails? What is the purpose of this riffle plinking, close range, mid range, self defense civil war?

Just a rail up top

I’m not sure about the rest of it.  I think I’ll get a feel for it before I decide if it’s my go-to for anything  ;)

So then my answer would be just get a cheap red dot from like big 5 for temporary use until you figure out what the guns purpose is. If it’s close range home defense get yourself a good red dot plus a flashlight that is pressure switch activated(hd). If it’s a little of both get a hand guard with a rail put on a red dot and metal flip up back up iron sights. My next optic is a 3x red dot with a 3x magnifier for the shooting I do. Everyone is different on the purpose of their rifle

Been running and selling some Romeo 5 red dots. Good price pretty solid, no complaints from anyone.

Millions of MBUS options on Amazon.

Some under $35.

They'll screw right onto your top rail.

I've always had great luck with Magpul MBUS for backup sights.  Watch the cheap crap on Amazon, it's made for airsoft.

I have these as back up sights to my quick disconnect red dot and scope on 2 rifles

I'm going to second the Romeo 5.

The red dot has a better outline than some of the cheaper options.

I don't bother with irons.

I like these for fixed iron sights.

A bit more rugged, heavy, and M16A2-looking, these are my favorite.

Or just just one of the above fronts with a carry handle.

This. Avoid the cheap junk sights on Amazon; it's pretty obvious which ones I'm talking about.

I've had great results with Magpul and with Troy/Midwest sights. I really like the Troy front sight with the AK style (round) hood, when paired with a red dot sight in an absolute cowitness mount.

For red dots I like the Primary Arms MD-ADS and Holosun versions.

If you want irons just do the magpul MBUS. They are light and in the end will be for backup if the red dot fails, no need to go heavy or complicated.
