The first thing I did with mine.  They don't require it but it is super cheap.

It cost around $20-30 monthly.  Good idea for many reasons.  If I have accident on street or roll down a cliff its like a $500 deductible.   Tenino just approved utv use in town !!

To operate a Street legal Watv/utv on the public streets/ roads you are required to have insurance. I think some of the confusion come when people see the list of requirements to make a utv Street legal( horn, mirrors, signals, etc insurance isn’t listed. But it is required to operate legally.  No different then when you register your car they don’t ask to see your insurance but it’s still required to operate on public roads

Agreed!  Another thing for some of you is to go Farm exempt!  Cheaper and more freedoms of use often.

Well!!!!!!!!!

What law are you breaking you ride on FS roads?
FS follows state and county laws, if state recognizes a pic UTV on public roads and the county also  allows UTV use, then what law is being broken?

I have asked this of the FS several times, and in email and have never been given a RCW (law) that is being broken. They only say that "UTV's have some trails and dual use roads". Which is correct for Non lic. UTV's. You can't use a Non-lic. on any road way, only those roads or trails that are designated for use.

So next time you talk with someone with the FS, ask them, "What law is being broken and to site the RCW"?  ;)

The way I understood it (and I could be completely wrong) they can set their own rules because its Fed and the FS Superintendent can decide to allow or disallow.

What can they do, write you a ticket?
In order for that, they have to have a law that you are breaking, ask them to show you the RCW in which they are issuing a ticket.

It’s federal land. It doesn’t have to be an rcw. It can be a federal law, rule or policy.

Years ago one of our group brought a Ranger ATV. Twisp area

FS enforcement drove right into our camp and told not to even take it off the trailer.

Another time one of our guys had a three wheeler in 342. Enforcement pulled over and gave him a warning. That officer told him if he found him riding it again it would be impounded.

The guy was just putting around a narrow little sub road.

Just use em!!  Really does anyone know of a person who was ticketed or worse?  I don't.  Many stories of warnings.  We had FS guy warn us but then after talking he explained rules to us and told us just be careful as he knew its all messed up and confusing.  We were all good.  What he told us was shocking in terms of what was ok to do!  No need to share as many would abuse it.  I think its a gray area and not worth their headache in court unless its really bad or involved in crimes or injury. :twocents:
