My parents are in the process of downsizing to a smaller house so I made a road trip to Texas last month to pick up a good deal of his taxidermy. It took quite a bit of work but I managed to fit nearly all of it into my office/trophy room.
It is probably too crowded, but I love having his mounts in the house. We were on all these hunts together and I was with him for nearly all of the shots. So many memories.
What is even better is that I have the mounts AND my dad. I always figured I would be adding these in after he passed away, but I am in the enviable position of having both. I know a lot of folks don't see the value in taxidermy and I don't judge that viewpoint - but for me the taxidermy has huge meaning. I work from home so I spend a lot of time on conference calls soaking up the memories of these hunts.
Brought back the following:
Pedestals:
-Eland
-Kudu
-Gemsbok
-Cape buffalo
Wall Mounts
-Impala
-Red Hartebeest
-Two Pronghorn
-Blue Wildebeest
-Mule Deer
-Whitetail
Full Body:
-Hyena
The Hyena has been banished for now. First, there is no room for it, and second my wife absolutely hates it!

The banished Hyena...
Not pictured are the Pronghorn as I had to put them into the reloading room and it's a mess in there!

Initial thoughts:
WOW!!!
What a wife!
A fella could easily get impaled in there if not careful
-
Outstanding! Looks great thanks for posting. I love taxidermy and have a similar "office" at home. Waiting for my Africa stuff to arrive this week love looking at the African mounts
-
Wow! You definitely do not want to get all liquored up and stumble around that room! I like the monkey wearing a skirt. :chuckle:

Ironically my wife is a vegetarian because she does not like the idea of killing animals - we married young, and after nearly 28 years I can say I made a good call! That's why I cannot get upset for the banishment of the Hyena...

My wife added the kilt.. here is a non-kilt view from our old place and I think you can see why she wanted him clothed!

Poor guy could use a hand.

I am curious what caliber was used on that Meerkat?
:chuckle:

I traded a copy of MS Office for that to come back with my shipment! I wanted a Disney tribute display...
I did however use a 375 HH on both the monkey and klipspringer!
-
Awesome room. Thanks for sharing. Lots of great memories sitting in there. Glad you still have the old man around to enjoy it with
-
Good ole blue-balled monkeys. :chuckle: From the looks of it, I wouldn't argue with the wife on the hyena....it looks like you've done quite well in obtaining space in the house for your trophies so far, so don't push it. :chuckle:

Wow that’s a lot of mounts. I’d hate to think of ever having to move.
-
They Hyena is a bit over the top, even by my standards. I am not a fan of "angry animal" mounts and this one qualifies for sure! But my dad really likes it and it is a conversation starter for sure!
Here is a front shot. My dog was begging for some ice cream and it looked like she had brought in reinforcements.
I dread the thought of moving - may take a full truck just for the mounts. Getting the buffalo up the stairs was quite a job, and hanging the elk about killed my buddy and I.
-
If that thing touches Lassie I will shot it......................Again.
-
:yike: wow...
-
If my dog brought in reinforcement like that, it would get double treats. Love all the mounts. I'd be happy with just a couple of them.

Awesome, thanks for sharing!

Quite a collection. I’d never get any work done. I’d spend all day daydreaming.
-
Wow that is one of the best collections I have ever seen! Be proud of it  And I love the hyena by the way. Beauty
-
Wow that's a nice looking dog!!
-
Thanks!
We have 2 collies in the pack. Also a lab mix and a beagle/boston mix (who is the alpha).
Boneaddict: It is hard to concentrate from time to time. I really enjoy the memories that pop up.
JWEBB: Thanks! I go back and forth on the Hyena. My wife pointed out yesterday that there are two hyena in the house, and I did not shoot either of them! (My buddy shot the other one and his wife did not want it in the house so I took it!)

Very impressive! If you ever need to move them again you can use these guys...for a small fee.

Actually they brought a load to the house back in 2014. All the African mounts were done by Jerry Huffaker in Abilene Tx. He started using them a while ago. They do a great job. A regular freight company shipped the 2007 mounts and ran a forklift through the crate damaging the warthog display, kudu and zebra mount. These guys only do taxidermy and dont even crate the mounts.

You are in need of a larger game room!

Indeed!
