Title: 357 Mag Revolver???
Post by: PNW4Life on March 21, 2019, 06:01:56 PM
I'm curious if anyone out there hunts blackies with a revolver loaded with heavy 180-200+ grain bullets.
Thinking about using a Blackhawk with the heavies, but want to know if anyone's been there, done it and got the trophy.
I've heard that anything 200gr or more, moving at least 1,000fps will suffice. I know I can get 180s moving 1300+ fps and 200s at 1200fps. I'm considering picking up some 225gr Hawk JSP Flat Points and seeing what they will do in the 357.

I haven't had the chance to shoot a bear yet but I carry these in my .357 and hope to get the chance some day.  I was pleasantly surprised to find they are one of the most accurate rounds I've put through my Ruger Security Six - even better than .38 wadcutters.

Not enough info out there to justify the little guy. Guess I’ll just be sticking to my tried and true custom Marlin ‘94 Trapper in 44 Mag, the 320gr hardcasts I handload just make .357 caliber bullets appear so dainty lol
