I put in for deer and elk multi season for the first time. How hard hard is it to draw for deer?
How hard is it to draw for Elk?
Just was wondering people's personal experiences with drawing odds or luck. Thanks for the feedback and good luck if your also applying.
-
Deer odds are pretty good and if you don't draw there are normally leftover tags in August that you can buy.
I would say 75-80% chance you will draw deer and 99% chance you can buy it in August.
Elk is way lower odds. Guys are not drawing with 6-7 points.
There are leftover tags for that in August but they sell to the first guy in line if you are lucky.
-
I drew deer 7 times in 8 years and elk once

In 2018 there were 11,589 applications for 8,500 deer permits..
There were 11,577 applications for 1,000 elk permits.

I put in for elk 1x and drew it. I have drawn deer all but one year.

There were 11,589 applicants for 8,500 deer permits but they still opened it up after the draw for people who didn’t draw?

A large amount of people who draw it don't end up actually purchasing it.

Much larger number than I thought.

This is the first year I'm not putting in for either. Reallocating the resources.
-
I don't put in for deer, but I've been putting in for elk since the inception and never drawn a MS tag. My wife drew for the first time last year with around 10 points.
-
I usually draw the MS deer. I drew the MS elk last year for the first time with 6 points. Good luck everyone!
-
Perhaps you need to ask yourself this. Is it really worth it for YOU. If you want the added time in the field for the price then that answers your question.
-
Deer odds are pretty good but I'm going into this draw with three points and never opted for the points option. That's right, I'm pretty much the best at not drawing lol
I've had the tag in my pocket most septembers though from.buying leftovers.
-
Ive drawn deer every time Ive applied but only bought it once..I use the MS as a fall back if I don't get any other special permits. If I get a deer or elk permit I'm all in for that permit so it leaves very little time to use the MS.
-
I apply for deer every year but usually don’t buy it. I apply for Wyoming deer each year and have roughly a 75% draw odds. Wyoming season is at the same time Washington muzzle season. I put in for the multi season just Incase I don’t draw Wyoming as a back up muzzle loader hunt. It’s a cheap $6.50 back up option for me. I don’t have to purchase the actual expensive tag until after the Wyoming results have been posted. So you can see there are a lot of left over tags with those who draw but decide not to purchase.
-
Just bought my multi season deer. I was on the fence cause I put in for Montana deer. But I would be upset if I didn’t get Montana and drew the Multiseason deer
-
You have any points for MT
-
Nope no points
-
Anyone know when the multi season draw is?

Anyone know when the multi season draw is?
Web page says sometime in the next two weeks.
-
I really hope the wdfw gets their crap together and starts giving us dates for draws. It can’t be that hard to give a certain date other states are capable of doing it. Hopefully this week

It says they will be available in April.

About an hour before traffic on this site blows up.
Final commission meeting was this weekend to finalize the rules and regs. With that out of the way the drawing and results should happen in the next couple of weeks as well as the official release of the rules and regs.

This is my last year buying multi deer. And i drew multi elk last year finally, so im back to 0 point and not applying again. If they want me to keep giving them my hard earned money every year, theyll have to start taking steps to fix our declining herds. Unless they get the ball rolling on predator management, next year i intend to buy nothing but an archery deer license and a freshwater fishing license. No special permit apps, no elk, no bear, no cougar. Screw em. Ill spend my time bowhunting deer, calling coyotes, and catching trout. That will be roughly $75 they get from me, instead of the $400 - $2000 i normally put in their pockets each year.
-
I didn't apply for multi deer or elk in WA this year. I will "multi" in MT for both where they call it a general tag.

I know many, many people that are taking these stances, not buying anything extra until the WDFW does something to reduce the over abundance of predators in this state and concentrate their efforts and money on rebuilding our herds and putting forth a better product for the hunters in this state, they are taking their money out of state, some is quite substantial and is money this WDFW is not going to receive, like Bango stated some are in the $2,000 range. I have never purchased anything more than a resident hunting lic., fishing lic. and a deer tag ,hunting and scouting the Methow my whole life has been pretty much a year round event that in my past took up 8-10 months out of the year, a lot of time was invested and it always paid off with dividends but not anymore unfortunately. The only extra I will buy is cougar and bear tags, if I can I will not even purchase a deer tag this year. Its sad to think that I may need to hunt out of state for the first time in my life but the way this state has mis-managed our herds has me pondering that option. Its very sad to look back and remember all the times myself and family went to the Game Dept. folks we knew during bad winters and loaded our rigs with feed pellets and be directed where to take them to feed the deer, literally tons of food back in the days or stopping by the game managers place to pick up packets of bitter brush seeds or even seedlings to plant while out hunting, fishing, scouting or hiking, all the bitter brush we planted in the Methow, the time, blood sweat and tears that were put in by many only to see this particular herd and others in this state be hung out to dry and be dropped into the cellar as far as being priorities now days. I don't blame any for not wanting to give any extra of their hard earned money to this WDFW, unfortunately this is what THEY(WDFW) have EARNED and they need to own it and fix it to EARN back the trust and confidence of the sportsmen and women of this state, I truly hope it does happen, at least in my kids and grandkids lifetimes.... :twocents:

I'm also going in with 3 our luck seems to be about the same.

Both kids drew deer wife and I blanked on deer.
-
No deer here. I drew last year though.

Pulled a deer tag w/ only a point.

Same here! :chuckle:
-
Deer was 1.37 avg points last year... I feel terrible for the guys with 3 points that don't draw... like how?
Second year in row with 1 point for me... I'll count my blessings. :IBCOOL:
Good news is there will be over the counter for those that didnt draw guarantee.
-
Count me in the group with 1 point that pulled a deer tag!
-
This is my 5th time drawing the deer tag but i think it will be the first time i buy it. Still no luck on elk

Drew deer with 1. Denied on elk with 6.
-
Got deer, no elk.
-
Drawn for deer with 1, not selected for elk with 7 :bash:
-
was my little brothers first year applying for multi season deer and elk, he drew deer but not elk :)
-
"Not Selected" for both. Oh well opens up time for my sheep permit I'll be drawing. 8)
-
My son and I drew deer no elk.
-
I've drawn deer every time that I applied (7 times) and 2 of 3 with elk. Deer is almost a gimme
-
Didnt draw last year, but i drew this year. Looks like wdfw gooned us on bear and cougar changes etc, so this is the last time im buying multi or any other apps unless some major changes are made. Hope i get to hunt a bit of rifle season this year, make it worth the expense of the multi.
-
For the first time since its been offered i did not get selected - I always buy and use the tag so I'll be in line for a leftover but I'll have to decide which tag to buy for the permit applications.

Finally burned my points and Drew deer! First time in three years!

seeing people excited that they drew a permit in their home state to hunt deer for $150

Haven’t you killed some world class amazing whitetails in your home state? Is it better or cooler to spend $500+ and go out of state to kill giant whitetails? Personally I’d rather spend $150 and stay close to home.
Seeing people crap in other people’s Cheerios for no reason ...
-
Me and wife both drew deer w 1pt, dunno if we will both buy
-
its a joke that as residents we have to pay this fee that many other states its included in the tag they buy. Doesnt matter what I have killed here and Ill gladly go outta state to hunt. Grass is far greener these days on the other side. Deer in this state might be at all time low or at least what I have witnessed and have seen happen in many areas of NE WA is sad deal. Dont get me started on the spring bear BS permit hunt in WA and the BS second deer tags that cost residents what is it near $70 unbelievable ! what is it to shoot a Turkey in WA as a resident? over $50?
Also would never pay outta state NR fees to hunt whitetails
-
I have gotten it mainly because of farm responsibilities, work and being able to get time off when I want to hunt. It gave me 4 months to hunt however and whenever I wanted. If the weather is crappy(blue bird), you are targeting a really cagey critter or other things come up you can just pass, take your time and still have tons of season left.
-

What MANY other states are you talking about? Quite a few are not and those are the ones that manage for quality not quantity and don't get in the predicament Washington is in.
-
very few western states are a pick your weapon state. Allot are you buy a general deer/elk tag and you can hunt areas that are open to hunting with that legal weapon. ID,MT, WY to name a few
-
My girlfriend drew deer on her first year applying. No elk for me though.

Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and Oregon make you pick a weapon. How many other western states are there other than the three you mentioned that don't make you pick? Also, Wyoming doesn't let you hunt archery and rifle (elk) in every unit. Some you have to choose.

Lots of reasons for folks to buy or not buy the MS permits. Between work and family and kids extra curricular activities that I will be as present as possible at, the MS permits give me a few extra weekends where I can hunt. At the price of literally $10-15 a day, it’s ridiculously cheap entertainment. That’s my justification. We all have different reasons. I spent $100 yesterday on a family dinner out. We all know where that ends up 24 hours later.
-
I'll gladly pick a weapon for an AZ or NM tag, I'm not sure those are fair comparisons. I think if you lined up all of those states and asked the knowledgeable elk hunting community to rate them best to worst, we know where WA would be on that list, even if you had the multi tag. The stinger is the multi tag costs resident hunters more than any other non special permit resident tag in any of those states.
I'm glad guys find value in it and wish them the best. Comparing it to other states doesn't hold much worth in my mind. Buy it and hunt it if that's the best choice in your situation.
-
Me and my buddy both drew. Will have to wait until the Wyoming draw results come out to see if I will actually buy it. The Washington state muzzle season is the exact time of the Wyoming rifle season. Its a good back up option if we don't draw out in Wyoming.

Comparing Washington and it's deer and elk herds to other states doesn't make sense. How can we constantly complain about how low our deer and elk numbers are and then complain we don't have enough opportunity to go kill them?

Lol, that's a pretty good way to look at it Jackelope!

I didn't draw deer or Elk. Congratulations to everyone that was successful and I wish you the best of luck. I did speak with the WDFW and the lady I talked to said you can still buy these tags in August without being drawn. Last year they caped off at 12,000 tags for deer. That's 3,500 more tags than is advertised in the drawing numbers. She said you are almost guaranteed to get a tag if you ask to buy one in August. For $150 I will pay that EVERYTIME to hunt archery, muzzleloader, and modern season with my Hoyt. The beauty in having the time to be very selective on which deer I want to shoot/eat is very appealing, and I love the idea of extra time in the outdoors.

Right on the money. Working retail is one of my limitations, as I can't take any vacation during the season. Combined with a Campbell Snoqualmie pass, it gives me a longer season, and a place I can get to and hunt all weekend, or sometimes just a couple hours.
-
I’m pretty sure you need to go in to a license dealer and forfeit your general tag. However, you should still be able to apply for special permits without purchasing the multi first. (I did)

Sure then this is the only option. I have purchased the deer tag in the deer, elk, bear, cougar combo but I never declared my weapon choice.
If you didnt declare a weapon choice then you haven't been issued a tag, and should be able to purchase it online.
-
That’s what I’m thinking but I have been through every page I can’t find and don’t see where I purchase the multi season tag. Do I have to select a deer weapon choice, then trade it for the multi season tag or something? Someone has to have done this recently.
You showed a screenshot of it in the last post. Can't you click "Add" to purchase it?
-
I found the issue.. I had all ready added a deer tag to my cart and since I had a deer tag in my cart it wouldn’t let me select both.. :bash:
-
259 of these still available. Why not make them over the counter to all August 1st after the special permit draw?
