In the next couple weeks I will be looking at getting a sit gun for Turkey season. What is a good but cheap gun? I don’t bird hunt lots so I don’t want to go over board on a gun.
Thank you

I have a Maverick 88 by Mossberg that I put a 28" barrel on and shot my first turkey. Mossberg makes 500 kits that have two barrels. I keep mine under my bed for home defense with the shorter barrel and use the long one for clays and the like. I prefer the Mossberg 500 over the Remington 870 but that's just my preference. Smaller sporting good stores usally have lesser known brands that sell low cost long guns that still go boom just as well.

Bought 870 Supermags for all three of my sons.
They work well, but there is one thing you need to check.
The newer ones had some machining quality issues that leads to jamming.
Easy fix: Watch 10 minutes worth of you tube videos to see where the machining marks weren't getting cleaned up then take 5 minutes with your electric drill and some scotchbright.
My sons used to jam.
5 minutes apiece and they function perfectly.
I would buy them again.

Mossberg 500. IMHO Remington has some quality issues.

Benelli nova is another good option.
Also check out Stoeger, their owned by benelli/beretta probably going to be a good value at 200 dollars

I would look at the Weatherby line. They are made in Turkey and mine has had zero issues. I picked up the PA-459 for $317 and a choke for $40.
One of the best gun purchases I've ever made!

Mossberg® Mdl 500 or Maverik® Mdl 88. Both are available 3"12ga or in 3" 20ga. Good quality yet is inexpensive.
Use a Mdl 500 20ga myself.

I have an 870 home defense that I turned into a turkey gun. Was cheaper to swap some pieces out then buy a new gun. Biggest problem I have with the 870 is the location of the safety. It's so difficult to find that thing and visually check the position when your working a turkey. I will probably get a Mossberg soon just to have the thumb safety.

Mossberg 835 12ga my first dedicated Turkey gun.
Mossberg 500 12ga my wife’s Turkey gun.
Mossberg 500 20ga my new Turkey gun.
All 3 are excellent guns and so are the Remington 870’s.

Get a used one from a gun shop.

If you are talking $100, Baikal single shot, $400, Nova and pattern whatever you get.
-
If you want super cheap you can usually pick up a stevens single break action for <$150. I have shot turkey and many grouse in Idaho with one.

You can usually find a Mossberg on Armslist for 200
I like the country squires. They have some character
