Im looking to get rid of all my mismatching camo, that ive bought from yard sales and wally world, and go to one camo pattern only. I have bins and bins full. I like what ASAT has done, but also like the first lite obsidian. Anyone have experience with either of these? Im looking for info on comfort, how well they are made and last, etc.. Thanks for the help Hunt Washington!

Never wore either but I love my Sitka system, my brother is a KUIU fan and really likes their stuff too.

Pattern means little my friend, most any pattern will help break up your outline when used properly. I like First Lite products, good stuff. I also like the material of Sitka, KUIU, Pnuma, and a few old Russel Outdoors items that have stood the test of time in the elk woods. Are you military (active or retired), LEO, or civil service (FED, state, county), firefighter (red card), NRA member, shooting sports instructor. If you are any of these, I can send you a few avenues where you can get some of the upper crust hunt clothing at significant discounts. RJ

Pattern doesn’t matter because critters don’t see the same as we do. So, find something you like and enjoy it.

Yea its just about preference. I like First Lite and have stuck with them the past 5 years and have been happy.

Most of the FL stuff I’ve had, has not lasted long at all. I made the jump to Kuiu and except for one piece (peloton 97) everything else has held up great and I find quite comfortable.

I don't discount the value of good camo when hunting seriously close quarters, but I'm not sold on any one pattern. I own Kuiu, Firstlite, Sitka, some Max-1 wool stuff, and various realtree patterns. I wear them all. I use the environment to break up my profile as much as possible and have started wearing more solid drab colors. Deer an elk don't have camo, and they are masters of blending in.
I do think that some of the real light weight stuff from Firstlite is not overly durable, and any of the puffy coats/pants are dang near fragile. My Firstlite guide pants are great, my Dad has shredded his Attack pants already. Just find what tickles your fancy and run with it, they're all about the same.

Has it helped in your harvesting of animals?
By far, I've killed the most critters wearing my BDUs from my Navy days & Carharrts w/ a flannel shirt.

Well, I really like the ASAT camo, as it breaks up much better in my onion that most others. Ive always wondered why camo has green in it, as most animals you hunt don't have any green coloring and as mentioned earlier, they blend in and hide just fine. I think ill find an ASAT dealer and go see what its all about.

I have been using first lite fusion for 4 years now. I have had moose at under 30 yards, harvested turkey with a bow, elk at 3 yards, harvested 3 elk, caribou under 15 yards, and whitetails leaning over me to sniff me. I don't know how much of a difference the camo has made previous to switching, I believe it is more playing the wind and staying as still as you can when something is looking at you.
That being said, I am going to continue using what has worked for me.

First Lite wool is second to none. I've tried to find stuff that will match it but it's not out there. Most everything will start to stink after a few days of vigorous activity. Wool however is not durable compared to synthetics so to compare durability with the two is apple's to oranges. FL tops are fantastic. Pants? Not so much! Wool gets destroyed quick when used for pants but what is disappointing with FL is the poor quality of their stitching. I've owned 7 pairs of their pants and EVERY SINGLE PAIR the stitching in the crotch is quite quickly blown out. Gaiters went the same way. Puffy coat I have warrantied 4 times. Every one blows out at the bottom of the left pocket. They are great and replace it no questions asked but if they didn't replace it I wouldn't be buying another. My puffy pants have held up well so far though.
Personally I think camo is incredibly over rated. I've got some camo pieces but only because they were sale items and price always dictates color for me :chuckle:

These are my lucky FL kanab pants. You name the seam or stitching and I have patched or repaired them. Both knees now have new patches after this hunt :chuckle: i look like a drifter wearing them but they have good mojo 8)

Try finding some of the Sitka stuff in the ASAT pattern. I'm still rocking a Sitka mountain vest, mountain shirt and 90% pants and jacket. I have worn the stuff for years and it's still holding up great. A little heavy but I still love them.

I’d say that camo blends in just about perfectly with the dirt road! :chuckle:

I typically always run a camo top....zero negatives to it and if its even the slightest edge il take it...I'm not as good as the pros but I know when that bull is under 15 yards looking through me I'm so incredibly thankful for camo
