Title: California Pig Hunt
Post by: kodiak10 on May 02, 2019, 06:07:25 PM
I spent the last handful of days down in California hunting wild pigs for the first time. I was amazed by the beauty of the land this time of the year, spring is gorgeous in CA with all the greenery in full form!

Wild pig signs were all over the property I was on. Saw extensive rooting and tracks on the top of the hill, and also large amounts of tracks in some nearby woods. Ended up spending most of the time glassing in the early mornings and evenings, and still hunting the woods in the afternoons as I thought it would be too hot for them to be moving around.

Unfortunately I did not harvest a pig. I didn't even see a single one on the property I had access to. Saw a 300 lb boar on the first day on private property from the road, and that was really an incredible sight! Lots of deer though, saw one buck in velvet that I imagine will be an incredible deer come fall. One of the best parts of hunting for me has been the exploring of all the land and seeing these places that few people have ever seen. I am looking forward to hopefully having some more success someday. I have yet to run into a legal animal at the right time and place and I hope this fall brings me some good luck!

One more picture the day the fog was in thick and low. Gorgeous morning!
