Title: Where would you hunt if you had the westside "incentive tag" first? Elk.
Post by: Kent Hunter on May 04, 2019, 12:41:25 PM
I posted this question in the wrong forum. Where would you hunt. It's a short season, September 1 till Dec 31.  :chuckle: The guy that got the tag is 62yo and can't do the rugged stuff anymore. I'll give you a hint about who has the tag. IT'S  ME!!! I had to have the guy from WDFW repeat himself when he called and told me. I've never killed an elk. So, come on with the suggestions my brothers!!

I would look at that tag more like Sept 1-30 and hunt as much as possible. There where part has a lot to do with physical ability. A lot of the places that come to mind are steep and deep. Congrats on an awesome opportunity

Can you also hunt the limited-entry areas?

I believe it's all except for 418 and 485. When hunting the permits you must use the weapons on the permits as well I think.

Tbar is correct. I think.  :dunno: :chuckle:. They are supposed to send me a packet with the information this week.

I would imagine you will get offers from members willing to offer advice or even tag along. Too bad you can't hunt the Nooksack, that would have been my suggestion. Good luck, hope you get a good one and show us some photos with your story.

418,485 and 522 have always been off limits to the incentive tags.  I didn't notice a change, but there may have been.

If it was me I would hunt the west end of the OP for a true Rosie.  Hunt hard and play it right and  you won't have to walk far.

if you have physical limitations and can get access to private land.  I would look at the Puyallup.

Can you be more specific about physical limitations? Can walk up a hill just not all day? can walk a long ways on flat ground at a slow pace? Pretty much need to shoot from a logging road? Also, what’s your goal / what would you be happy with? 6pt, 300”, 330”+?

Hard choice I love those big bulls of the Nooksack and its my old stopping grounds, but I would love to get a true rosie as well. IDK can't really go wrong what ever unit you hunt. It a special hunt enjoy it. Will be tagging along.
