Bare primer is the best way to go.  All of mine are bare primer - but I have to switch back to cap ignition for Idaho ML season.

This is the bare primer system I prefer

Knight does offer another one that you have to feed the primer into some rails on the face of the bolt.

The top picture is using a FPJ bolt and Lehigh Defense primer adapter, Breech plug, and Vent liner

That is the bad part if you have a Western bolt - you will need to get a new bolt housing... And if you do I would suggest FPJ bolt (red plastic Jacket bolt)

There a three different Knight bolt housings
1. Western Bolt
2. FPJ bolt
3. The new Bare Primer bolt with loading rails

Your current hammer will interchange with any of the three,,,

Shoot if you have the FPJ bolt you are in really good shape - go to Lehigh and pick up the 3 parts you need and you are into the 'bare primer' shooting theater.

Get a couple of the primer adapters.  One of the breech plugs and a couple of the vent liners.

Why do you dislike the red plastic liners?

when I bought the 209 upgrades for my Ultralights I'd just assumed the plastic jackets were the best setup for waterproofing (I'm on the wetside).  Was I mistaken?  Why choose the bare primer over the Plastic jackets?

The FPJ's are water proof! but, for me they are dirty!

I shoot the Bare Primer in my Knights and the breech is almost spotless!  And the breech of the rifle is water proof.  But in most cases you will have to shim the breech plug to make it water proof.  Also suggest that you use Winchester W209 primers they are the longest American primer.  European primers a little fatter and can get stuck in the BP.

See if you can see this topic on this site... if not let me know

Here is a picture of my spent primers as they come out of the breech plug.  But you will probably have to shim the plug to get this.  If the plug is not shimmed or you primers do not come out clean then there is a possible path for moisture into the breech.

Hi all.  A bit late to this one.  What size drill bit for the Disc Extreme bare primer breech plug?  Thanks!

I think you are asking about cleaning the flash channel directly below the nose of the primer

I just make a 'Bit on a Stick' with a 5/32" bit

Thanks!  Exactly what I was looking for.  What advantages does the Lehigh system offer over the new(ish) Knight bare primer setup?  I'm a WA guy and bought the upgrade kit for 209 last year.  I get a little blowby with the Winchester 209's, but it functions well.

The biggest advantage is the removable and replaceable vent liner.

If you are only getting a small amount of blow by and you are OK with it - go for it and shoot the heck out the rifle!

So, if I’m going to shim, where exactly does it go?  I’m a little confused

Is this advice the same for an ultra-lite?

Yes the only difference is the breech plug.  The ULite BP is a little longer.

Great info here. Another round of questions for you guys

In a disk extreme or ultra-lite is a 209 FPJ bolt with a western breech plug and #11 nipple Oregon/Idaho legal or would the cap be covered making it illegal? Also someone familiar with the knight rifles mentioned the 1:28 twist 50 cal barrel being geared more towards the 250gn 45 cal bullets in a sabot what does one use in the non sabot friendly states?
