So the question is, who’s got experience with carbon fiber barrels? All he runs are Christensen barrels but being custom, takes 6-8 months to receive one. I have looked at a CarbonSix barrel for my build, but I wanted to see if anyone had some input.

Benchmark doesn’t make carbon barrels.
They do, however, provide the steel core/blanks to Hells Canyon Armory for their carbon barrels.
This is what I heard anyway.

Just about all of the different companies that do carbon fiber wrapped barrels will give you their sales pitch about how they wrap them in such a different and special way that their process is so much better and they'll also tell you about how the resin they use is so much better than all the other companies and their barrels dissipate heat like no other. When you boil all the sales pitch BS off, it pretty much comes down to how they look.
Personally, I like how they look so it's not like I am dissing on carbon wrapped barrels, in fact I'm putting a Proof Research 6.5 Creedmoor barrel on a new AR10 I recently bought, but I'd be lying if I said I thought there was any advantage over an all steel barrel because there just isn't. I think they look cool so I'm going to use one, but that's the only reason.

Short answer, if you like how carbon wrapped barrels look and you are ok paying double + for a carbon wrapped barrel, absolutely get one, BUT, keep in mind, there is little to zero advantage, other than aesthetics, to a carbon wrapped barrel versus an all steel barrel of equal quality.

I am either old, old fashioned, or just cheap. But give me a quality steel barrel any day over the new fad. Put that extra money on a new trigger, better glass etc etc.
Nothing about this build is cheap. 1100$ Mausingfield action, 1200$ stock, Nightforce scope.... total build cost is about 4800

Like I said earlier, I like how they look and prefer the look of a larger contour, especially when the barrel diameter matches that of the muzzle brake and with a CF wrapped barrel you get that without the added weight, but again, it's purely a aesthetic benefit and nothing else.
Also, if lightweight is your goal, I probably wouldn't be using a NF scope because they are anything but light.

Where did you find a Mausinfield for $1100? The Nucleus is about that price but both the Archimedes and the Mausingfield are over $1400.
I'm with b23 on this one, carbon barrels are more about aesthetics than function. The quality of the blank that's getting wrapped is what makes them shoot well, no the magical properties of carbon fiber. You can get 2 quality steel barrel blanks for the cost of some CF barrels right now.

The best thing to start reading is your bank statement, it's going to be hurt the most by a carbon fiber barrel. :chuckle:

Bought a Christensen Arms AR barrel and sent it back. Was not impressed with the quality of the carbon fiber layup. Very wavy. Proof research machines theirs down smooth.
I have zero experience with CA's barrels but I did just put a Proof Research CF wrapped 6.5 Creed barrel on my Seekins SP10 and I have to say, Proof does a really nice job with their CF wrapping process because aesthetically, my barrel looks really good. Haven't shot it yet, but if it shoots as good as it looks, I'll be one happy camper! :tup:

When I eventually rebarrel it, I'll go steel but I really like the carbon that's on there for now. It shoots great, weighs a little less and looks swag.
