Which mushrooms cannot be mixed with alcohol? I've read that you should not eat morels with alcohol. Is that true, and does it hold true if the morels are fully cooked or dehydrated? Any other mushrooms?
I've only had one bad experience and it was with some early season chanterelles. I assume I either ate too many or under cooked them. I threw up but didn't feel any other effects. No sickness, nausea, or anything else.

I've never heard this. I finish most of my mushroom cooking with sherry, cognac, or bourbon. I always drink with dinner. Maybe that's what causes the headaches in the AM. :chuckle:

I've also read about shaggy manes and ink caps.

I had shaggys once. Wasn't impressed. Never ate ink caps. But, I've drunk alcohol with chants, morels, porcini, matsutake, hedgehog, fried chicken, chicken of the woods, lobster, hawkwing, blue chanterelles, pig's ear, yellowfoot, black trumpet, hen of the woods, oyster, angel wings - no problems.
Most of the problems I see people have is more from eating raw or undercooked mushrooms.

I've eaten both with alcohol and look at me............

I've also read that drinking alcohol and eating wild mushrooms, especially morels, is extra hard on the liver :dunno:. So, I just quit eating morels, problem solved.

I'll have to look into that. If you're correct, I like your solution a lot!

Probably not a good idea to mix magic mushrooms with alcohol.

Yep. My wife cannot eat fully cooked morels and drink a beer. Made her sick to her stomach. First time we didn’t realize why she was sick. Second time i had the idea that they were related. Third time I googled and found that is somewhat common. Not everyone some some have a reaction to morels and alcohol. Wife won’t eat them any more. She can eat and drink separately but not together.

I've heard from a friend that it's an awesome combo. The only problem is that the alcohol has little effect on you...until the next day.

I have also heard this from a friend in my teenage years, baeocystis mushrooms and beer, at a keg in the woods makes for an adventure in navigation.

Same here. I no longer eat early false morel, shaggy manes and ink caps. Other wild edible shrooms are on my list as OK to eat. Even Fluted Black Elfin Saddles!

Never even crossed my mind that you could eat shrooms without drinking

I've seen this happen before. We found her the next morning about about 100 yards from the tent with zero idea were she was at, or how she got there. :bdid:

I belive thr thought between not drinking an mushrooms stems from how your body reacts poorly to mushrooms. If I remeber right is has to do with liver and kidney function, which is why you should eat a small amount of a new mushroom first and wait 30 min.
