Salmon fishing off the coast has been slow, and the weather has been challenging so far. So, just in time for Memorial Day, I'm going to offer up some of my frozen product to the HuntWa folks in our 3rd Group Buy.
Mea Culpa: I would have done this much earlier, but my commercial cold storage situation has been in flux and I'm still searching out alternative options.
The main thrust of this buy are the coho are frozen and vac pac fillets from my late August coho trips, and the spot prawns are Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) and glazed tails from my October spot prawn season.
Check out this link to see the fish from August. They were big, beautiful coho.
https://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,229735.120.html (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,229735.120.html)
The frozen and vacpac filets range in weight from 1.0# to a bit over 4.0#. They are packed in 50# boxes of random sized filets, but I will sell smaller amounts. If you missed out on the first fresh buys, or didn't want to commit to the big job of cutting and packing your fish, this is a good way to get in on the tail end of that deal. Very easy to deal with.
*Coho filets, vacpac and flash frozen -
$11/#, for quantities of 1-49#
$10/#, for quantities of 50# and up. SOLD OUT
Here's a bit about the spot prawns-
https://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,207837.390.html (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,207837.390.html)
The spot prawn tails will be packed in 2.5# fancy cardboard boxes, 4.0# in a fancy 1 Gallon ziplock :chuckle:, or for the well-heeled shrimp enthusiast, 48-ish# cases.
*Spot prawn tails, IQF and glazed -
$35 for 2.5# box SOLD OUT
$45 for 4# ziplock bag, price on request for case.SOLD OUT
I also have some smoked Copper River sockeye in 1# gift boxes (our own SitkaBlacktail might have even caught some of these!). These are filets that have been smoked and sealed in a foil pouch, making them shelf stable for a long time. I produce these to sell to local businesses that have a national customer base, and move a fair number of them every year. Gerrard and Dominique (SeaBear) in Anacortes did these for me. It is the same fish you see at all the gift shops, mall kiosks and fish counters for around $35-$40 a box. No refrigeration needed. I'm switching over to my own coho for next year's run with a ground-up redesign of the packaging, so I need to clear out the small amount of boxes I have left. Have a nice appetizer for your Memorial weekend meal, and/or get your Christmas shopping done early!
*Smoked Copper River Sockeye 1# gift box-
$25 each (tax included, while supplies last)
Finally, I also have a very small selection of Washington Troll kings and Halibut I had fileted, vacpac and frozen by a shore-based processor for me last week. I have two king filets left, and a handful of 1-ish# skin-on portions. I also have a few 1-ish# portions of skin-off halibut as well. These will be a first-come first served, priced as marked deal. One of the kings was a marble, which has a different look for those that haven't seen one before - but it is a great eating spring ocean fish just like the others. I caught these guys last week out on the Prairie, about 30-35 miles off the coast out of Neah Bay.
I'm looking to be in the Everett/Marysville area Wednesday evening and the South sound/Tacoma area Thursday evening. I'm open to suggestions on central places and times to meet that is most convenient for the buyers.
If the interest is there and time permitting, I would be willing to make an E WA run as well. That would likely be Friday evening and Saturday morning, depending on demand. For me to take the time to do that, however, I would need to make sure I was moving a fair amount of product. Otherwise, I'd have to tack on a serious "Delivery Surcharge" that might be more than the fish itself :chuckle:. If there was anybody who we could tap to be an Eastern Wa link and meet up with some dry-side buyers, I could help a little with the price on their own order.
Payment can be cash or check. I can take PayPal as a gift up to $500. My pricing on these discounted products doesn't support taking credit cards at this time, but if somebody really needed to use a Visa or MC, we can probably work it out after discussing the fees.
Thanks for checking this Group Buy out, let me know if you have any questions. I know it's short notice, but I wanted to get some fish to you all before Memorial Weekend and as fishing goes - it's the window I have to work with right now.
Thanks again for the interest and the continued support, it means a lot to us small business owners.

Ill be in seattle on june 12th, but i suppose youll be out fishing at that time, yeah?
-
If you figure out a tricities drop, I'll take 12#s of prawns and 25 #s of coho fillets.
I'll be bear hunting Thur to Monday so I won't be available to arrange a meet up.
If you figure something out with enough interest by others in the tricities please include me, if not, I completely understand and will get in on the next buy.
-
If there is a Spokane connection, I'd be interested in Coho and shrimp. I could help distribute in Spokane but would need to get them here from the coast.
-
I'd like the Washington Troll caught fillets and 4 pounds of shrimp please. I could meet you in Marysville. Just let me know the time and place. Thanks
-
@dchilson
You and casey were just talking about this. I've got inventory and mega work obligations but you guys should get in!
@bknilvr00
-
Fyi, for those new to this you will not find better quality at anything close in price or a better captain to support.
-
Chris, I will take (2) 4# bags of spot prawns if available
-
Any idea what time frame you will be avail for pickup in the Marysville area? Id be in for 25# of Coho and 4# Prawns if it works out.
Thanks

Anybody willing to make a Spokane run??? Pretty please :chuckle: :chuckle:
Top notch fish from a top notch guy. Y’all wont be disappointed

Checking in guys, thanks for the kind words and interest folks.
I'll get a list going this afternoon on the first post like we did in the previous threads.
Ill be in seattle on june 12th, but i suppose youll be out fishing at that time, yeah?
@Bango skank
Hard to say at this time, but likely. Since it's frozen, could we leave your order with somebody?

I'll definitely keep you on the list. If I get over to TriCities, maybe I can leave them with @syoungs with it until you get back? We'll work something out. Good luck on your bear

@daddysprad
Sounds good. I might have the Spokane distribution piece in place, but if not I'll take you up on your great offer. The more we can move in Eastern Wa the easier it is.
I'd like the Washington Troll caught fillets and 4 pounds of shrimp please. I could meet you in Marysville. Just let me know the time and place. Thanks
@shannon
You got it. I'll have the meeting place set up soon, most likely North Everett/South Marysville.

@buckmark
Let's make it work out. I'm thinking of posting up in Marysville/North Everett sometime after traffic dies down on Wed Eve. Do you have a suggestion for a place? Somewhere that has a nice parking lot and a barley pop on tap would get my vote...
Anybody willing to make a Spokane run??? Pretty please :chuckle: :chuckle:

@Dhoey07
I was hoping I'd get to sell you some more fish :chuckle:. The Spokane thing is looking possible, just need to get people to raise their hand. What would you be in for if I could make it over?
Chris

Just sending out a notification to the folks that have expressed interest in the past, especially those that missed out on previous group buys. The more we can move, the easier it is for me to take another day off the ocean and do more deliveries. If we get enough interest, you might even find me in Metaline Falls this weekend - tell your friends! :chuckle:

8# of shrimp minimum.
I’ll do a freezer check when I get home and see what I got left for salmon.
-
Spokane guy here....I'll do 20lb Coho and 4lb Prawns. I'll talk to the in-laws see if I can drum up more business.
-
I'm out on this buy but I am just here to say.... BUY WITH CONFIDENCE. The coho I bought from Chris last year were top notch. Everything came exactly as described and I got one heck of a deal to boot. Great guy to work with.
-
I'd be in for #30 of salmon and 4 pounds of prawns. Spokane area. :)
-
I would take eight pounds of shrimp and maybe more. I am in ellensburg.
-
@Ctwiggs1 - Thanks for the endorsement, really glad you enjoyed the fish. As we discussed, I take great pride in the fact you choose to feed your family in part with the wholesome wild fish I catch. It is an honor, that is no exaggeration.
It looks to me like the Dry Side is making serious effort to buy some fish, so I'm taking my show on the road (and the long-suffering family in Spokane will be happy to see I've made the effort to get over - to sell fish :chuckle:).
I'll be in EBurg on Friday early afternoon, Spokane Valley on Friday evening, North Spokane on Saturday morning, TriCities on Saturday afternoon, and Yakima on Saturday Evening.
We're going to do the tomorrow night pickup in Marysville, I'll list the time and location on post #1. I will bring extra product, so if you have friends/family that wants to check it out before they buy, bring them along.
I'm going to have to build a special fish hauler for this in the future.

Skillet -- what is the general time frame for whole coho again? I like filleting my own so I still feel a little bit manly about the whole thing :chuckle:
My kids absolutely love eating your salmon, and my wife and I love knowing that their dinner came from wild waters. We're almost out, so.... Get on that man! :chuckle: :chuckle:
Curtis
-
I would buy 8lbs of the prawns for the tri cities meet if that works

Ha, I understand that. The fresh coho program, if it happens again, won't fire up until late July/early August at the earliest. That seems like a lifetime away to me right now...

Ok. 50# of silvers and 8# of spot shrimp for the Hoey’s please.
I thought the wife would balk at it but we only have 2 fillets left from the last time and she wants more!!! And I won’t argue :chuckle:
You sending invoices through email again?

Skilled negotiator, right there! I've got you down for it, thanks for the support again man. I sure can send you an invoice, but looking to pick up cash or a check at the time I hand off the fish if that works for you.

Cash works. I appreciate it!
Give me a shout when you got a spot Friday evening to meet.

I have no idea how to do a tricities pickup with me being in the wilderness all weekend and having the wife with two infants figure out things while I am gone is not an discussion I am wanting to have.
Let me do some pondering on how to figure this out.
I can paypal money, so transfer of money isn't an issue.
If you know a time and location for Tricities by Wednesday night, let me know and I will hopefully figure something out.

No worries at all, we'll sort something out. I can make a delivery for you somewhere too if that's easiest, if it's in the general area. A few extra miles on a run like this is no big deal to me if it helps you out.
-
Skillet, where in the south end are you thinking for Thursday evening? We are still enjoying the heck out of the Coho from last summer!!! But would be very interested in some prawns this tour if we can make the meet up work! Thanks again!!!!

Talked to the In-laws and will add another 10lb Coho and another 4lb package of prawns.
Total for Bigdave in Spokane: 30lb Coho, 8lb Prawns Thanks!!
-
Any halibut left and how much per pound?
-
Do you have Halibut or bottom fish?
-
Sent a PM on price on a case of prawns.
-
I'm in for 15lbs of coho and 4lbs of prawns, in Spokane. Let me know the pick up details. :)
If you want I can meet you at the I90 Tyler exit as you come by.

How about I shoot you a TM when I get out of Ellensburg? It's looking like Machias and I will be meeting at the Albertson's on Highway 27 Friday evening if possible, early Sat morning otherwise. That a workable location for Friday eve for you too?

Do you prefer a North Spokane on Saturday meet, or Valley on Friday evening?
-
Any halibut left and how much per pound?
Got a couple of chunks of Washington halibut left, doing those for $16\# to clean me out. You want me to bring them to the Marysville meet-up? I'm thinking the Buzz Inn at 72nd and State should work out perfectly.
-
If you have any left could you add a chunk of Halibut to Freds order, estimated #'s? He's coordinating the Spokane crew.

Can I add another 4# bag of shrimp to the haul? So 50# of silvers and 12# of shrimp total.

I live top of sunset hill west of Spokane......could I meet you at the Tyler exit along with Britt dog if you like.

My south sound delivery is really non-existent at this point, so I'm pretty open. Might be as far south as Olympia to deliver a case of prawns at noonish on Thursday, but that's not a done deal yet.
What area would work best for you, along the I-5 Corridor? I'm trying to get back north before traffic gets too bad, have an opportunity for a bit of family time I'd like to enjoy before I rush off to Spokane the next day.
-

That's a great idea. Would a 3 pm-ish meet work for you? If not, I can meet you on the way out of town to the Tri Cities on Saturday as well.
-
Can't do three PM, I couldn't make it out there until 4:30. I could drive out to the Albertsons pick up if that would be better. What time are you doing that drop off? Saturday would work as well, but I was hoping to have some on the smoker by then!!
-
Count me in for 15lb of fillets and 4lb of prawns. I’m in Yakima.
-
You got it Karl. I should be swinging through Yakima on Saturday afternoon/evening. I can pm (or tm) you when I'm leaving Tri Cities to give you a better idea if you like.

You got it Tinesup. How about I pm you on here when I get on the road Friday morning? I'm targeting Eburg by noon-1 oclock ish. Probably the big truck stop off the freeway works best, if that works for you-
-
Inquiring minds want to know, have you converted the entire back of your pickup into a big refer unit or did you just rent a refer van for this trip? :chuckle:
Any thought on Tri Cities meet place and time yet?
-
Here's the meeting place for the north end:
Marysville tonight (5-22) - Buzz Inn parking lot on 72nd and State. Will be there from 5pm until we get the deliveries made, hoping to have it all wrapped up by 7-ish, but will accommodate people's schedules. I'll have some extra on board if anybody wants to stop by and check it out - just PM me on the board here. See you there.

Didn't you see the earlier fish trailer picture? :chuckle: Thinking about taking off my bed and bolting that right to the frame rails.
Im thinking at this point I'll be in Tri Cities late morning, but will tm you when I pass Ritzville. As for a meeting place, anything near the Columbia river park works for me. Call the ball, Mav.

The easiest place for a drop off for me would be the Flying J truck stop at the Geiger Exit right before you head down into Spokane. That's about a mile from my house. I really wanted to meet you, but I could have someone out there with the cash to do the pick up whenever it would be convenient for you on Friday. Easy access on and off the freeway there.
-
The trac used to be so close to the house...I don't miss it over there though!!!
Skillet, late morning works for our plan as well, just text after the trac rendezvous and she'll be good to go.
Woodchuck, if something happens and you get stuck in the snow and cant make it, skillet can drop it with mine and my freezer will hold yours.

Oh, you're not missing much by not meeting me. I'm much more impressive online than in person :chuckle: You're more than welcome to chase us out there to the Hwy 27 Albertsons when you can make it, it's starting to sound like we're going to have a tailgate party out there. BYO hunting lies stories
I'd be happy to drop the fish off at the Flying J though. I know exactly where that's at. Would I be handing off Britt-Dog's fish there as well?
-
Britt-dog will have to chime in on that one......don't know his location exactly. What time are you delivering at the Albertsons? Might be a good time to meet some more fellas from Huntwa.
-
Hey folks, wanted to throw this out there. We have a member in North Spokane that is going to be bear hunting this weekend, and was hoping to get 30# of coho filets. Wondering if anybody up that way had some temporary freezer storage until he gets back mid-week? I'll be in North Spokane to drop off fish on Saturday morning.
Thanks -

Roger that, I'll touch base with him.
Looking to be around 6pm, but I'm pretty flexible as the place I'm staying is fairly close.

I'll take a $45 for 4# ziplock bag, if possible. I'm in Mill Creek, near Everette.
Thanks,

Hi Carl,
Any chance you can swing a bit north and pick it up in Marysville this evening between 5 and 7?
-
Hi Carl,
Any chance you can swing a bit north and pick it up in Marysville this evening between 5 and 7?
I have to go to Monroe at that time to pick up my Camping trailer that I'm renting out for the weekend. Sometime Saturday??
Carl
-
Unfortunately, Saturday I'll be doing my Eastern Washington run.
-
Is it too late to get 12 pounds of Prawns?
If you are half the man I think you are, you will have stashed at least 12 pounds of prawns for me.

Mama is happy.
Gonna be some surf-n-turfin' going on around here.

My wife made some prawns browned in butter/garlic and over pasta with cherry tomatoes. Very good! The prawns tasted like I just caught them. Thanks again Skillet.

Great talking to you Chris, the fish and prawns look awesome. Thanks again.

You bet man, thanks. The 4# bags of prawns are moving so well I may need to buy back some of that case from you. :chuckle:

There is a chance I'll do the whole fish again, but it would probably be a single shot in early-mid August if I can get it done. The wholesale market is definitely leaning towards FAS fish for this coming year, so I need to focus on keeping my on-board freezer busy. Keep an eye out, as it will be the same as last year - a short-notice offer that depends on wx and whether or not the fish are cooperating.

Great Jerry, glad to hear that!

Well, I guess you're just going to have to buy another shot next year so we can meet :chuckle:. And I better do it before the bears come out - lots of guys in the woods right now.

Ok folks, here's a stock update:
Coho VacPac filets: No longer taking orders on the vacpac coho filets. I'm down to my last few pounds. If you really want some, let me know and I'll get back to you with availability after I fill the last few orders. I updated the first post to show vacpac coho filets are about done.
Coho commercial glazed filets: Glazed filets, not vacpac. I normally only sell these to commercial customers, but if any HuntWa'ers are getting serious about a big smoker load or canning party and will run 50# at a time, this might work for them. Only available by the 50# case, I have a few cases left.
Spot Prawns: 4# bags are almost done, I might have half doz bags left. Once I get back to Everett, I'll do an inventory and advise.
Smoked Salmon: 4 boxes left.
King portions: Still have a few king portions, still 20% off to move them.
Halibut: Sold out.
Thanks for the support folks, it's been great to meet you guys and share stories. Lots of interesting people on this site, that's for certain!

A case of prawns just became available, so that means 12 more 4# bags are up for grabs. Thanks WSU!

The Fish truck just left.
Looking at the quality of his products I will say buy with confidence. Said he is heading to the Tri Cities.
-
I guess i'm late to the party since I haven't been on here much lately. If you're heading south anytime soon, I would be interested in a couple 4# bags of prawns in the fancy ziplock bags. I'm in Graham, so let me know.

@Dan-o
Dan O has promised.....sworn even....to share prawns with those late arrivals.
-
Skillet...Thank you!
Great to finally meet you and thank you for your effort in doing this.
I'm going to need you to turn around and bring me more shrimp, these 12 pounds are not going to last long.
30 minutes since the drop off...

Bad thing is, once you eat the wild spot prawns, you can’t eat the store shrimp any longer. We usually go out and catch our own, but didn’t make it out this year. I went back and fourth on jumping in on this, but out of town this weekend. If you make it South, I’d be in for 4-6 bags of prawns depending on what you have left. I’m in Enumclaw, but can meet up anywhere on a weekend.
-
I'd be in for a couple bags of the prawns and some coho if you have any left. I can meet almost anywhere. Will be in the Everett/Snohomish area on Tuesday. I live near Maple Valley if you will anywhere near there.
-
Also late to the party. When you get back to the Everett area if you have any prawns left I'd be in for a couple bags. Let me know if I'm that lucky.
Also, I know Dan-O as well and he is a generous person. I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing with whoever is left at the end of this... :EAT:
-
My first taste....chive, butter, garlic, prawns in pasta.
-
Id be in for another bag of prawns if you have one left when you are back in Everett!
-
I’ll take 2 bags of prawns when your back from the road
-
Thanks again Skillet for loaning me the cooler.
, the fish and prawns are great. It was a pleasure meeting you!

Prawns are sold out. Got a few deliveries to make but there's no more available. If you want to be notified for next year's supply, let me know.
All I have is a couple of full cases of glazed coho filets left.

And Keep Devon away from mine.

Please add me to the list for prawns next time around.

Cooked up some spot prawns in butter and garlic for my mom’s Birthday tonight. They were a big hit. I’d post a picture, but they were going fast and I didn’t get a chance to take a picture.
Thanks again!
-
Chris, as usual, I'm late to the draw, but keep me in mind for the Spokane area next year. I am in Colville. Salmon would be my choice.
Tom
-
Put a couple of fillets on the smoker over the weekend and I gotta say this Salmon blew anything available in the Spokane area out of the water. The first thing I notice when I open the package......NO FISHY SMELL. I think you've ruined me. Keep the fish train rollin' to Spokane!!
-
Met up with Chris today in Everett and scored (I think) his last 2 bags of prawns. Great looking stuff, can't wait to snarf some down. Thanks man. Great guy. I'll be throwing business his way for a long time.
-
Top shelf product from a stand up dude! Only regret was not buying more, thanks Skillet.
-
Thanks to all for the interest and the business. I really enjoyed meeting a bunch of you for the first time, and seeing some old friends again.
One thing I heard over and over was something to the effect of "I normally like to catch my own, but between my busy schedule and the lack of opportunity, this is a good second option." I really appreciate the opportunity to fill in the gaps for team HuntWa, and look forward to stocking your freezers with a wider variety of products for years to come.
Thanks again to everybody who bought or expressed interest. Keep your eyes open for future opportunities!
-
Some damn fine fish, thanks! Nothing like some surf n turf after hiking around all day.
-
Anyone on the fence about buying fish from Skillet, rest assured he is a real stand up guy! Fish and prawns are fantastic. We had a minor order mix up and he jumped all over it and fixed it super fast. Looking forward to ordering more in the future!! Thank you!!!!
-
Last shot with my prawns. Got an old neighbor that used to commercial fish....parkinsons has about taken him. Dropped off a few to him then made a pico de gallo ceviche kinda thing.

Now you’re talking . Haven’t made ceviche in a while. Looks fantastic!

Outstanding seller and products, skillet went out of his way to get my fish order to me and I live on the opposite side of the state! Looking forward to more this fall! A++++
-
Anymore group buys coming?
-
4 of my 12 pounds of prawns are already gone. :(
They are so flipping good.
Also been eating a little of the roe raw. Can't be bad for me, right?
Thanks again Skillet!
-
No, the thanks go to you guys for enabling a fishing addict like me. :chuckle:
I will definitely be doing another winter group buy, hopefully adding a few more product choices as well.
Thanks again Team HuntWa, and keep your eyrs peeled for another group buy!

I'm about to dive into my prawns, is there any prep required before cooking? Thanks!!
I've had two of the fillets smoked, OMG!!!!!!!

Depends on how you feel about eating shrimp turd. I’m far from an expert, but I put them in boiling salted water. Usually until they float, this is maybe two minutes. Then remove and put them in ice water to stop the cooking. Then I peal and split along the back to de-vein. Cook however you want from there.

Easy peasy way to prep i do, thaw in water for a few minutes, take a pair of kitchen scissors and cut up the shell about 3/4 to the tail, gently squeeze at the tail and pull at the same time and the meat pops out, clean the vein off of it and then cook as you want....super easy.
-
Just peel and eatem no need to devein IMHOP .

Yeah, that.
Usually the vein comes off with the tail. That and they don’t spend their life in the bottom of a sludge tank in Thailand.
I never do anything more with local spots.

Thanks everyone!

Cooked up a bunch tonight. I did the pre boil as usual, but used the meat shears down the back tonight. That’s definitely the way to go. I went all the way down and cut off the tail. Just roll them out. It split the back open on most and I could wash the vein out also.
-
Had all the kids home today for surf n turf.
I did up a 10 pound bag of prawns - did them up chili garlic style.
There is steak in the fridge for sandwiches tomorrow, but the prawns didn't last.
