Reports on the Colville radio about two wolves shot this weekend.
A father and daughter were walking in the woods in GMU 121, a wolf came onto the roadway and ran straight toward them, the father dropped the wolf at 25 yards. A WDFW official was on the radio claiming it's hard to say if the wolf was an actual threat to the individuals.
A collared female wolf was illegally shot on the LPO refuge, there is an ongoing investigation and very little info is available.

At 25 yards, running towards me, I would feel threatened.

Good riddance x2 👌

Can’t say I’m surprised, nor sorry it happened
-
Sounds like a great start  :hunter:

I think a wolf looks at me the wrong way I’m gonna feel threatened plus I would never call the WDFW They would probably attempt to prosecute any case in Unless the wolf was Actually physically on top of you 🙄
-
Yeah and you better let him take a few bites so he has your flesh in his stomach. I’m sure they would still prosecute if you accidentally shot the one that wasn’t chewing on your leg.
-
ahh? no.
I'll let my peers here in Eastern Washington judge me if it came to that.

Shoot
It’s up to me to protect my family. Especially if my kid is with me. This society is getting ridiculous. Way out of wake

We’re fighting against idiots plain and simple. What happens in the field, stays in the field. Do the right thing but not necessary to report it.

The interview sounds fairly reasonable. Wolf popped out on the trail at 30 yards, moved toward the guy and he killed it at 25 yards. Wolves don't typically want to be around people and it is entirely possible the wolf just didn't know he was there. Either way, he was justified to be scared and justified to kill it. Case closed.
-
It sounds like both wolves were killed in self-defense, one possibly preemptively. Very sad indeed, but we should all try to move forward from this tragedy. 8)

Oh wow.
I was in GMU 121 last weekend myself. Looking back, I am glad I had my glock 20 on my hip at all times.
-
20 minutes for WDFW to get there. Now that was fast.
-
Good luck with that reward conservation nw...

Stand your ground law to any type of threat. Man or wolf. >:(

Damn good start.

If it would have been wolf predation on livestock, it would have taken a few days.......and then they would have a meeting with their fake environmental partners etc..........

Exzactly. WDFW hate's the folks paying their wage. No balls what so ever to do whats right. Theft.... Hang'em

Do to a "sudden wolf migration" in 2009-2010 we along with several other folks were having problems with wolves around our homes, killing chickens, killing livestock, attacking dogs etc., so I met up with one of WDFW LEO's I asked him how close a wolf had to get before I should shoot it, he said if the wolf looked like it was interested in me, that a hundred yards would be a good distance to start at.
I talk to another LEO who said, if you have to shoot a wolf, lay down in front of it and put one in the chest.
As we saw with the lady treed by wolves a while back, WDFW will protect their wolves above all else.
-
Almost forgot about that incident wolfbait!
I try to be fair toward WDFW because I know they get hammered from all sides, but that was completely inexcusable.
-
25 yards? I'd make sure my footprints were closer to the wolf than that before calling it in. (I shoot a revolver so no shell casing landing).
Why open oneself up to questioning the validity of the self defense. Make it look much closer.
Wolves usually run in presence of humans, especially if the wolf is alone. So can't really fault this guy for firing.
-
I don't see thos as a tragidy, i see it as a step in the right direction.
Everyone has their own view and oppinion,a happy ending to both animals.
-
Any idea where at in 121? We have pics of two on our property.....open carry is the rule of the land when my family yikes for that very reason.
Scary stuff to hear wolves are not even remotely affraid of humans.
