Title: Riffe Lake
Post by: ctwiggs1 on June 02, 2019, 10:55:12 AM
My buddy and I are thinking about hitting Riffe next weekend.  Any advice?  Any recent reports?  Never been and it’s a 2 hour drive each way so TIA!

Last I heard fishing was pretty good. Depending on size of boat it may be worth calling the park office and seeing how the wind is. I think they are in about 8 am. It can get ugly up there if your in a small boat but usually before noon its fine.

Dad went last weekend and did really well. Wobbler/small dodger 3ft leader and brad's kokanee cut plug. 12-18in. Agree on the wind. It can get down right nasty

The fishing has been great, you gotta make sure you know which launch is open, and the rest is gear and technique

Fishing is is good. Had 5 coho banked in 40 mins near the bridge, they bottlenose and become easy pickin with kastmasters. Medium retrieve with a flick every 2 full rotations or so. Seemed to be the sun flashing off the kastmasters on the flicks that got them taggin hard. Few times had hookups back to back casts.

Thanks for the report Smossy!  Sounds like one of those days you don't have time for a snack or sip of coffee - those can be tough!

What size fish were you getting into?  Headed there in a couple of weeks and wondering if moving from the Taidnapam area down to the bridge area to fish would be worth it or not.

Hey no worries I actually just posted a thread this morning about it..

Most the fish averaged about 2lbs. I fished the bridge area down on the rocks. They all bottlenose into the river and it makes it easier to get hookups.
They were all inbetween 16-20 inches or so.

No worms in any of the fish we caught this weekend. All looked healthy, not skinny and potbellied like they did when they were full of worms. Seems to have been getting better the last few years

My dad has been out the last 3 weekends trolling and averaging 2.5lbs fish he takes a few buddies out from work and sends the fish home with them. His boat is under repair at the moment so I'll be out in my 14' this weekend to land a few

Indeed, Riffe fishing in general has been great. I keep makin the trip out there myself. Fishing the small channels where the old towns once were. Now that the waters down they're easy to find.

There's a little pond across from the SW end of Riffe - Swafford Pond. Electric only. It has some huge largemouth in it.

We've done all catch-and-release there for years. The eagles don't practice it though. They're very active in there. I've caught several mount-worthy fish in there.

Heading down this weekend, never fished it late August..  I have it dialed in for June/July but never fished it this late.  Anyone been out recently for the silvers/kings?  How is it fishing?  Planning on fishing it the way I always do but I know the water is down a bit.  Anyone change it up when the let the lake down?

The east wind was pretty bad last week. Be prepared for it. I know the fishing crowd was way down.

thanks...  I checked it today, looks to be fairly mild..  hopefully.  I think it slows down more because guys are chasing salmon in the rivers and salt.  Usually that is what I'm doing, but it's been slow go in the river this year unless its pinks.  Typically have a decent card going for kings by now and its been a big goose egg.  figured I'd take them out there for more action and the freezer is almost empty from the June/July trips.
