I fear there are whole generations who do not realize how this day in history changed the world as we know it.

I always thought Saving Private Ryan should be mandatory watching in about 7th grade. So far one of the best depictions I have seen of the day.

X2
As those who lived through these events pass, they take a lot of history with them. Brave doesn't even begin to describe these men.

I'm going to take this a different direction.
I agree every 7th grader should watch this. I also think all Europeans should as well. I'm not so certain that I would endorse saving them again. History, especially in Europe, repeats itself.
I'm seeing a bunch of self inflicting wounds happening all across that continent. I resent the holier than tho/we are so enlightened sentiment. If they get steam rolled By the Russians or the Muslim hordes, I wont support saving them.

RIP, heroes. Thank you and your families for your sacrifices. I am grateful that such men existed.

I work with a gal. She just told me that today her Dad was on the beach. First wave. She said he never talked about it. Just that out of the 1000 guys in his group, only 2, one of them being him, made it off the beach.

I've chatted with a couple that were there, they said the beginning of that movie was the closest they have seen re enacted.

I love that this song is topping the charts and has been for a while, out selling and out pacing all the trash being made by gangsta rappers and twerking girls selling their booty
restores a little faith in humanity

Yup, he stormed the beaches of Normandy at age 15, his first combat action. I think he's a Brit.

Just watched this on my lunch break... Big Don addresses over 60 WWII survivors on Omaha Beach. Very powerful speech and recognition of some great Soldiers.

When I watch movies like Saving private Ryan, or watch some of the old documentaries and compare that with how our "frends" act it makes me bitter.
I belive it is noble to help and save the oppressed and weak. I dont think it is our duty to cover for a population that makes poor decisions and is allowed to do so because of the shelter we provide.
I could give several current examples about NATO spending and such but we have discussed them on here before.
Perhaps 75 years after Normandy is too far for folks to remember and it is too easy to dismiss the connection. The European arrogance/dismissive nature of America is what really chaps my hide. Perhaps some of you remeber in 66 when Dean Rusk sec state was ordered by LBJ to ask French president DeGalle if the order to remove all American troops included the 60+k burried troops from WW1 & WW2.
My contempt comes from the obvious threats they face yet welcome these same shackles that will enslave them in the future.

You are exactly correct! Kids and some young adults have no clue on what these men went through and how pivotal this day was in history! God bless the men that sacrificed then and sacrifice now

Heroes return to Normandy.
