If I'm reading the website right, it looks like no Summer crabbing in the DesMoines/Tacoma area again.
Is that right?
-
Looks like you are right... what a complete joke.

well I know where the crab went. I fish MA11 and 13 a lot. Usually twice a week. There is a large boat that is almost always tied up to the Pt Defiance boat launch dock. I always see them hauling out crates of crabs on a dolly and loading it into a van. Either native or commercial I never asked. This has been going on for alteast the last three months. Their crab pots are huge!!
-
I'm bummed.
I enjoy crabbing out there.
-
I never limit out but we always have fun setting pot in area 13. I guess I need to find a new spot to take the family on Hood Canal.
My wife bought me a new electric scotty pot puller this year. I'll have to find someplace to use it.
-
irritating. We enjoy crabbing in 13 and look forward to it each summer. I guess we’ll just have to get our fix in Alaska in July.
-
Crab aren’t doing great, hopefully we are past the real bad years and they will recover. I read there are basically missing years where little to no young crab survived.

So why not close it for everyone? WDFW sucks....
-
Why close it everywhere if there are enough in many areas to support a harvest? That doesn't make sense at all. It's open for everyone, you just have to drive a bit, just like everything else.
-
I wasn't implying close it everywhere, if the state wants to close area 11 and 13 for crabbing I think they shouldn't let ANYONE crab in those area's.

Im guessing he’s saying close it for everyone in that area that’s closed to non natives. Seems more than fair to me.
-
That makes sense, my bad. Commercial has been closed since April 15 statewide.
-
I've been running around Area 13 the last couple of weekends. There are no pots out there, commercial or native.
-
My kids and i are more than bummed . There are other areas but when yhere is something next to home always helps . I know the numbers have been down for several years but not one group of people is responsible but I agree on closed for one group should be closed to commercial first before us

The protected waters of the south sound are perfect most of the summer for us guys with small boats. It would sure be a shame if our crab pot just sit in the shed all summer.

you must be near me :)

The kids have a blast dropping pots and catching crab. They don' t have to be Dungeness crab for it to be fun for the kids. I have eaten my fair share of red rock crabs. I think they should allow a red rock crab season. I don't see why it all has to be shut down.

I have called and never really gotten an answer . I think the answer is they don't trust people to do it correctly and not take the the dungeons or they will say the traps would affect there breeding or some crap
-
Yeah, that would be a nightmare to enforce. As hard as it is to say, the best bet is to just leave them until they recover. If you have kids to take out, teach them to catch flounder, the nonstop action and hard fight on light line will give them more than enough fun.

But is it much different than than enforcing the release of wild salmon when it is hatchery only? :dunno:
