Will be spending lots of time in these 3 units for the sept bull hunt, I'm new to this area and wondering what areas if not all areas seem to hold the bigger bulls. Any help or suggestions would be great. Have had a couple guys spend some time with me on the phone as were looking at google earth. Man do I appreciate all there help. once in a life time hunt and want to do my home work, time field hell even thinking of going to some of the local bars to chat with the old timers. just did a post on wind farm, but don't know if this wide open area worth spending a bunch of time in?

awesome tag congrats.

Lucky!!!!!!!!!!
That's an epic tag.
-
Hmmmm
-
Lucky man. You should be boots on the ground there everyday you're not working until the season opens. Best of luck.
-
I think with that tag you get four days to hunt. I would take two weeks off and hunt the entire week and a half before your hunt to make sure you are on the bull you want.
Good luck and enjoy that tag, that is a once in a lifetime tag for sure.
-
Great tag! Ill try not to hate you, but its only a natural response. :chuckle:
-
YES I WILL BE SCOWERING ALL OF IT. I just retired and will be scouting up there a lot a lot a lot. and I never thought I would get this opportunity in my life. been a week and I'm still jacked
-
Great timing with retirement also! Good luck!
-
P.S.
We want pictures when it comes together for you.
Please!

I swear if I ever get that tag, I'm done on opening day. I "always" see bulls. During modern season.
My advice on the windfarm is, glass it up but, don't spend a whole day hunting it. If you see them, they are there. If you don't see them...well...they ain't there.

:yeah: Good luck and post story and pics
-
If I was you, I would tear up that tag and throw it in the garbage. You are way too old for this kind of hunt!
-
Epic opportunity. I hope you have a couple great pals go help.
Good luck
-
You have a great tag and I wouldn't shoot anything smaller than a 350'' bull, better yet, have Karl or Coach go with you!!
Back on track!! :chuckle:
-
Also, there is a ton of pressure with quality tags like this one, and only a very short time to get it done! I’d take 4-5 days off before the hunt and scout, call bulls in the area till you see your goal. Hopefully he doesn’t get shot out from under you.
-
Has the tagholder been over to scout since he posted?

Has the tagholder been over to scout since he posted?
Yes he’s been over multiple times this summer to scout.

Right on. Was hoping he might chime in as to what he has been seeing

Well I’m not sure he is willing to share what he’s been seeing, like trophyhunt said he might have a bull shot right out from under him and sold for jerky :bash:

That is a risk regardless and we aren't, at least I am not, curious about specifics just generality

so he is willing to come on here and ask for help but then ghost everyone :dunno:

I took it as more of a “wont share specifics” (pics, sizes etc)

The feed in there this year is phenomenal. If there was a year to have this tag, this is it. Treat it like the once in a lifetime opportunity it is. Don't shoot unless the bull has the wow factor, if you don't trust yourself then have someone who knows elk tag along. We're seeing some incredible bulls. Good luck, I hope you share the hunt with us.

Well I know he’s been in contact with multiple forum members, myself included, and I can’t speak for him as it’s not my place to. Maybe he hasn’t been logging in and checking this thread. :dunno: This tag can put a lot of pressure on a guy though. Even last year when I was on this same hunt with the tag holder, Ron, he was very relieved after shooting his bull. As if weights were lifted from his shoulders and I’m not saying it was relief for satisfying forum members but, just in general a guy can get stress and pressure because of the tag he’s holding in his pocket knowing it’s a one time thing.
-
AWESOME TAG! Congrats.
My brother drew this tag a few years back (link below) Bulls bugling EVERYWHERE! Find the one you want. Take a few buddies buddies with you, it's absolutely insane and hardly anyone around. They can video then help pack.

I don't disagree. All I'm saying is year after year, dozens after dozens of guys come on this forum, ask for help, get help from generous forum members and then those tag holders never return to update the very people they asked for help. Personally I think it's a bit rude. Now I AM NOT saying that is what the OP is doing. Life does get busy and updating a chat forum is pretty low on the to do list. All I'm saying is at some point pop back in and say hi. If you can find the time to ask for help and correspond with members you can find a minute to update YOUR thread.
Make Huntwa great again! If I can update a thread from the side of a mountain on a February kodiak mountain goat hunt, then anyone can :chuckle:
-
:yeah:
-
Yeah I don’t disagree with you, everyone on the forum enjoys reading updated highlights of a guys hunt and not to mention pictures of a successful hunt! :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: I sure have enjoyed reading your hunts Karl

hey man I sure appreciate that. I post because I like to read others posts and I'd be a hypocrite if I expected others to but I didn't.
To the OP, whether you shoot a 404" 7x7 or a 206" 5x5 or even if you eat your tag, snap some pics, write a quick little blurb about your experience a d share it. We love it all. Success as well as failure. Though if you give it hell and leave it all on the mountain, then you did not fail. You have one of the best tags in the western United states. A huge bull still won't be easy but they are there for the taking. Enjoy every second of it!

Well rather than sitting around playing keyboard hero, he has been over putting boots to dirt for 3 weeks. Not much service up in the hills. He will update later Im sure

not seeing many bulls? You are definitely not looking in the right spots then. See big bulls every time I go up.

Fair warning. Leave the tribal discussion out of this man’s thread. He’s got a quality hunt permit and that’s what he started this thread to discuss.

I imagine theyll started scratching velvet today or last night even. They are getting "itchy". I was hoping to film it, but I had to walk away.

Was up there a few days ago. Ran into a herd that had to be 100 head. One nice bull and some smaller bulls. Great tag for sure.

Was up in the area on Monday with my son and ran into several spikes with cows, more spikes this year vs last year. Elk heard looked very healthy with a ton of calves. We didn’t see any bulls, but did hear a few within ear shot of a heard of 200+ elk!

I don't bother during modern. It's a zoo. But would be glad to give info.
