Long time lurker but figured i should register and hopefully be able to share my hunt this fall. I drew the 49 degrees north late tag with 24 preference points which i think is the maximum since the inception of the points system unless i missed a year applying. Like others have said i still find it hard to believe i drew an OIL tag. I have some knowledge of the unit, primarily the north east side as i used to hunt whitetail there in the 80' and 90' s but now mostly hunt in 105 kellyhill or the blue mountains for deer. I recently was told that the bulls can start dropping their antlers by the end of november but had never heard of that and was wanting to know if any of you had any knowledge of that? I will try to attach a pic of my buck i killed in 1987 up Tacoma creek that grossed 174 back when i still had lots of hair since i am now a 60' something bald guy ;) Looking forward to november!

 Excellent. Welcome, good luck, and bring us the tale when done.

Welcome and good luck on that tag!

Great WT, yes bulls can drop towards the end of November for sure. If it were my tag I'd take a week early in the season and then have another week planned around the 20th if the first week doesn't plan out. Don't put all your eggs in one basket at the end of the season.

Bulls will start dropping by thanksgiving. I always say pray for snow and then be ready to deal with it. There are lots of bulls but they are not around every corner. Don’t over look the early part of your season, it will be much more accessible to a few good areas. Good luck.

I drew the same tag, but in October... I will let you know what I learn during my hunt. Congrats!

Man that's a nice buck.
49 still has a pretty good count on bull moose. Nothing huge but some decent bulls.

How's it odd? I hunt 49 every year for bear, deer, and elk. I have seen countless bull moose in that unit but nothing I would consider huge or big. That's just my opinion.

Eight feet + at the top of antlers, barely break stride to top a 6 foot fence, they are all big. Be careful out there

I hunt moose there every year and there are very large bulls. Maybe I don’t know what a big bull looks like. What would you consider huge or big?

You hunt moose there every year? How lucky....
What do I consider big? I'll know it when I see one.
The last bull moose I saw in that unit that made my jaws drop was over a decade ago. Now when I see one they look like rag horn bulls. But everyone has their own perspective on what big is. Good luck to the OP. Should be an easy tag to fill.

Let's call it good and please not derail our op's thread.
