Title: What critter is this?
Post by: NOCK NOCK on June 23, 2019, 05:43:14 PM
This was an over winter cam in a heavy downfall area. The tree went down and camera was only 12" from the ground, face down. What body belongs to this foot? Bird pic for size reference.

My first thought too.

I don't think it was a bear......unless it was a tiny cub, feet to small.
Could be wolverine,  :dunno:  How about a pine marten?

Marten feet are tiny, way smaller than that. My guess is a small bear or wolverine.

Looks like bear to me...
General location?
NE, SE, NW, SW?

Shouldn’t this be moved to the Bigfoot thread?

My guess would be a Fisher, color is right and the size is about right.

Agree, that’s the one I was trying to think of but couldn’t come up with the name. Saw a couple of them years ago near this area.
My best guess would be Fisher then Wolverine, just doesn’t seem to have the right shape/style/ look as a bear

My guess is Fisher.  If that’s the case, cool!

Honestly, I couldn't remember the name either and had to google Mustelids.  Remember the feel of the fisher skin in Mammology class from Central back in the early 80's, by far the softest of all the skins.

Fisher paw looks like this.
I'm sticking with bear cub

Wolverine

100% bear cub :twocents:

 :yeah:
That is what I keep going back to. Claws seem darker and deeper than fisher or wolverine I have seen and the wrist/paw a little broader and more flat.

Bear.

Hmmmm. That does look pretty close to the OP.

I still think it’s funny I got a pic of critters with cam in that position.

Well considering theres probably 1 wolverine in Washington to about every 2500 bear and maybe double that for Fishers, odds are......  yes, that is funny you still got pics.

Does the date of the shot suggest a bear cub?

Any water nearby? River otter?

Fisher or a marten. Wolverines have real beefy mits

+1 for skunk or fisher.

Doesn't seem like a bear paw to me.  Because....  emotions, I guess.   :chuckle:
